My health has always been one of my top priorities. I was a dancer, musician, and athlete throughout grade school. Maintained musicianship through college, and since, I’ve been caring for people on the intellectual and developmental disability spectrum. Throughout this time I was also going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as being treated intermittently for my chronic hydrocephalus, and asthma has always been an obstacle to my cardio health to varying degrees. As a result, I’m not on a specific, doctor-ordered diet/plan (yet), but I have to be somewhat wary about my food choices, diligent about my water intake (more than the avg Joe), and vigilant about my physical activity and weight.
Of course, I am human. And healing and progress are never as linear as we would wish. And I like chocolate, and tacos, and pizza, and pasta, and desserts. A lot (but I also actually like salad).
I’ve tried many different self-imposed diets and supplements: from store bought probiotics and protein, of which my favs kept getting discontinued, to expensive mail-order that never quite tasted right or checked all the right boxes for me.
Then about 3 years ago, an acquaintance on Facebook asked me about trying another the pink drinks that I now love. And about 2 years ago (yup, a whole year), I said yes. And again. I am human. And backsliding is real. And it’s okay, as long as you get back up.
Some of my biggest hurdles around this, and being healthy in general, are money and convenience. But a few people have reminded me along the way that being healthy is an investment in myself, which reframed my thought processes. Some months are less, but all days, weeks, months are something.
Aaaaaaalllll of this is to say;
Happy New Year (belated, as it may be).
My resolutions are:
💫 Maintaining my healthy routines,
💫 Cleaning up the (physical) chaos in my life,
💫 Seeing friends more, if possible,
💫 Maybe helping dismantle the patriarchy. We’ll see.
If anyone would like to have a conversation about my health journey and these pink drinks, especially if you, like me, do nooootttt fancy sticking yourself with needles every so often, let me know. 😉
