Today I was reflecting a little on our online yoga studio, and the wonderful community that has sprung up around it.
Around the time my grandfather passed away in March of 2020, I was seized with an inspiration to share with others what he had shared with me regarding spiritual life.
As serendipity would have it, around the same time was putting together a collective of yoga teachers to lead online classes since in person studios were closing for the pandemic. The idea was to have an accessible online space open to one and all to keep up with spiritual practice.
At Stay OM Yoga, all the classes are entirely donation based as to remove all financial barriers to yoga practice and donations go directly to each teacher.
Annie was kind enough to give me three slots throughout the week.
Over time, attendance grew steadily as the interest for spirituality and yoga deepened in the collective cultural consciousness. Now, three years later we are host to a global community of committed practitioners about 800 people strong and counting! We haven’t missed a single Monday night gathering in three years!
Thank you all for participating in this community, for attending our live zoom classes religiously (pardon the pun) and for putting your spirituality first. We bow to each and every one of you!
In our three years, many teachers have shared their inspiration: tai chi, dance, art, yoga. You have each been integral to our journey! Thank you!
Some time in 2021, Annie passed the studio over to me so she could follow her inspiration into the Yosemite forest where she was to work on a peanut butter cook book. Classic Annie.
At that time, there were only two teachers left on the schedule: me and our Emily Anderson (pictured). Emily has been here from day one and has been the most consistent and constant presence on our schedule with her weekly nourishing Hatha classes. I have never met a more committed and soulful yoga teacher. Naturally we became partners in managing the studio; nothing would be as it is without her friendship and help. I am beyond grateful to you, Emily!
Happy 3 years and here’s to many more!
