Invitational language seeks to create a non-coercive space for people to hear a yoga facilitators invitation and then consider what they want to do with their body.

This centers the yoga practice to honor each individual and celebrates our unique designs.

At some point in time, you might have found yourself in an instinctive response to fear. This is normal. Our bodies have been wired to protect us and we do not have a choice in how our body reacts to the moment.

We can sometimes feel disappointed, frustrated, or angry with ourselves when we look back on these moments. If shame ever enters in, remember, we are constantly in a learning process with our bodies and developing a connection to the deepest part of ourselves.

Polyvagal Theory: A Ladder of Nervous States

Shifts in our autonomic nervous system produces three elementary states: rest-and-digest (social & safe), fight-or-flight (mobilization), or shutdown (immobilization).

You might consider these stages as a ladder. Throughout our day, we live up and down through the branches of the autonomic nervous system.

It’s possible to find different stories held within each branch. In building an awareness to these stories, we can intentionally retune or reshape the stories found within to create a “flexible” nervous system.

I found my voice through journaling. Opening up to a blank page became the space I could write with complete honesty. Where my emotions could be expressed fully and I could be a witness to myself and embrace all that was there. It became a timeline, a history, of where I had been, what I moved through. A place to honor my resilience.
