I'm over-exaggerating here, but the first pic is the position to avoid when carrying your baby in the infant carseat.

*Avoid leaning to one side
*Avoid shrugging your shoulders
*Avoid jutting your hip out.
*Avoid holding your breath.

In the second pic, I show a better option.

*Stand up straight
*Hold the carseat in your bent elbow
*Exhale as you lift.

This is a great recommendation in theory, but as you can see, it is truly difficult to avoid lifting anything that is not heavier than your baby.

The best case scenario is to have someone else do the lifting. However, when there is no other option, use the strategies below:

*Keep the object as close to your body as possible
*Avoid breathing-holding
*Start your exhale as you lift
*Hinge at your hips, bend your knees, push through your heels
*Avoid rounding your back

Diaphragmatic breathing, 360 breath, breathwork, or even pranayama breathing. Same or similar strategies that I use with most of my patients to improve their symptoms.

However, if you're not doing these, 24/7 does that mean you are breathing incorrectly?

Doubtful.

There's no right or wrong way to breathe.

Buuuut, sometimes you do need to do something different than what you've been doing to improve your symptoms (pain, pressure, leaking).

And sometimes these breathing strategies help you to make positive changes towards decreasing your symptoms by being that ‘something different’.

Have questions of how this may apply to you? Send me a DM. Happy to chat!
