Hollywood would have us believe the mid-life crisis is about red sports cars, joining a punk cover band or quitting your job and traveling the world in the style of Eat. Pray. Love.
The reality often looks more like
*an ever-expanding waistline despite eating healthy and spending hours in the gym
* painful periods, complete with sore b***s and cramps (uuuugh!)
*adult acne and dry skin (how do those even happen together?!)
*mood swings that rival the Buccaneer ride at 6 Flags
*anxiety-induced heart palpitations
*existential dread, wondering if your life has meaning.
We fail to prepare women for peri- and menopause. Society instead conditions you to suck it up, put your big girl panties (or Wonder Woman socks) on, and just work harder.
Too often that becomes a spiral that leaves you more exhausted and feeling unfulfilled.
