Many women assume their metabolism has simply “slowed down” after 40.

But the reality? It’s responding to years of dieting, under-eating, chronic stress, and nutrient depletion.

And after 30, we start to lose muscle - which is KEY for a healthy metabolism.

The body adapts by conserving energy and relying more heavily on stress hormones, like cortisol.

Then when hormonal shifts begin in perimenopause, those underlying imbalances often become more noticeable.

As a 43-year-old woman in perimenopause, this is a typical lunch for me:

• Chicken breast/thighs (protein + fat)
• Sweet potato (carbs)
• Peppers, artichokes, zucchini (fiber)
• Tzatziki or chipotle sauce (for fun + a little more fat 😊)

Nothing fancy - just a balanced meal that supports my energy, workouts, and hormones.

A lot of women assume they need to eat less in midlife. And in some cases, that may be true depending on the person.

But most women I work with are actually under-eating -- especially protein and carbs.

That often shows up as:
• fatigue
• anxiety
• mood swings
• poor sleep
• stubborn weight changes

Balanced meals like this help:
• stabilize blood sugar
• support more consistent energy
• reduce cravings later in the day

Understanding what your body actually needs in perimenopause is key.

Ever feel like you suddenly need to declutter your house, reorganize your schedule, or rewrite your entire to-do list in perimenopause? Or is it just me 👀

That’s not just “being extra.” It’s your brain and body searching for control when your hormones are shifting over 40.

👉🏼 Progesterone (your natural calming agent) is dropping
👉🏼 Cortisol (your main stress hormone) can be all over the place (and so can estrogen 🤪)
👉🏼 Your nervous system is more sensitive, so chaos feels unbearable

So what do you do? You try to create order on the outside.

But calm doesn’t come from color-coding your closet (though it is satisfying 🙃). It comes from supporting your body with sleep, minerals, blood sugar balance, and (when needed) HRT - so your system isn’t running in overdrive all the time.
