After a longgggg hiatus, I wanted to say hi! Some of you remember the Savvy Environmentalist- a blog/ educational insta I was running and activated a few years back. Life got in the way and between graduate school, deciding on career paths, coaching volleyball and other personal things, I dropped off. I’m here to announce the restart of The Savvy Environmentalist. I want to remind everyone that no one is perfect and what we really need is everyone doing something imperfectly versus perfection in a zero waste/ sustainable lifestyle. I’ll be sharing candid tips and tricks I use as well as sustainable swaps I like and use personally every day. I’ll also be sharing resources for sustainability in general as well as climate change facts. I truly enjoy sharing what I’ve learned through trial and error over the years and invite you to come on this journey with me- whether it’s you just figuring out how to get started, if you want to find a non-toxic toothpaste, or are confused about climate change! This is a no judgment zone- no question is dumb and I’m here to help. Welcome and here we go 😋✨

A year ago, this first generation, fresh-out-of-graduate-school doe eyed climate enthusiast was hired as the first full-time female on staff at a community solar start up.

From my thesis-defending, protest marching undergrad career to my two years of rigorous academic growth at NYU’s Center for Global Affairs, with countless unpaid internships and hundreds of hours of research between, I can finally say I feel like I’m making a small difference in this world through local, clean energy for all communities.

Being a woman in the energy industry is no joke. Like other male-dominated industries, us women often feel like we can’t speak our minds or feel like we need to shrink ourselves to be put in a box in the workplace.

There have definitely been rough days in the mix of the good weeks- struggle and challenges in the mix of success. Pushing for change is never easy- and we have to stay focused as well as always on our feet. Let’s keep taking up space, ladies.

Cheers to more change, in EVERY system, because we sure as hell need it. Cheers to years of continued hard work to create a world we all envision- a just, resilient, empathetic world.

PS: the climate crisis is not a planet issue- the planet will rejuvenate just fine without us. The climate crisis is a HUMAN issue. Climate displacement, natural disasters, ocean acidification, disruption of food chains and loss of biodiversity. Everything from micro plastics to fossil fuel pollution, we are the problem and we need to change. This issue sounds and looks daunting to most- but creating resources to educate and spread awareness as well as motivate change is what we need. Intersectional environmentalism is where it’s AT! Earth Day feels a little different this year- not physically going to events to talk about how we can do our part. But this is where we’re supposed to be. Carbon emissions have been cut drastically and it just shows we have the power to change. Happy Earth Day everyone- here are some views Mother Earth has blessed us with. Happy Earth Day everyone from my Dad’s beautiful village of Teggiano!!! Not only on this day, but let’s be aware EVERY day of what we consume, what our products are made of, what we’re putting in our bodies, and most of all what we’re doing to our earth. Business as usual cannot go on any longer! Let’s spread the word about climate change and take action- whether it’s doing your part recycling or being an active citizen and holding your representatives accountable for climate change adaptation and systematic change. We need millions of people to do this imperfectly- not 10 doing this perfectly. 🌱🌎🌍
