I’ve been working in the tattoo industry for over 10 years, and during this time a lot has changed in technique, approach, and the very meaning of tattoos. Machines have become more precise, quieter, and more comfortable wireless and silent systems are now common, while modern inks and supplies minimize skin trauma and allow complete control over the process.

Today, a tattoo is above all a form of self-expression. People don’t just choose a design; they choose a story, a style, and an image that reflects their individuality. Over the past 10 years, medium and miniature tattoos have become more popular, and clients rarely bring ready-made Pinterest designs. Instead, they come with their own ideas and detailed descriptions, which help the artist capture the meaning and mood of the piece. The rise of AI has made communication easier and accelerated the creation of sketches, while keeping each design unique and personal.

Tattoos have grown into true art, where every detail matters. Today, a tattoo artist works not just with skin, but with a person’s image and story, creating individual pieces that stay with them for life.

Tattoo myths that shouldn’t hold you back

Tattoos are no longer something radical, yet fears and doubts still linger.
Some come from the past, some from other people’s bad experiences. Let’s break down the most common ones ↓

“It’s going to hurt a lot”
Pain is personal. It depends on the area, the density of the work and your own tolerance, not on the tattoo itself. It’s a controlled discomfort, not an extreme ordeal.

“Colored or white ink hurts more”
Color doesn’t increase pain. Any extra discomfort comes from larger areas being worked on or dense filling. White ink is usually applied at the end of the session, which can make it feel more sensitive. The pigment itself isn’t the cause.

“Tattoos blur or turn blue over time”
That’s a myth. Modern inks and correct needle depth keep tattoos sharp and vibrant for years. Poor technique, not time, affects the result.

“A tattoo must have deep meaning”
It doesn’t. If you want symbolism, great. If you want a visually strong piece, that’s enough. A tattoo doesn’t have to prove or explain anything.
