Hannah's Hope Foundation

Hannah's Hope Foundation Hannah’s Hope Foundation is focused on educating, enlightening and empowering families with disabilities and educators by supporting the child as a whole.

Hannah’s Hope Foundation.
Est. 2015
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our family's HOPE is to gather community and build universal supports for MANY.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Creating a mandate to educate, enlighten and empower others about Complex Communication Needs within our natural environments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hannah’s Hope is a deeper mission of my heart, creating an impact within the systems.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To ACTUALLY build sustainable bridges between families and professionals with practical strategies of the how-to.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We have an incredible board of directors, volunteers, and committees who are striving for the same things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is community.
Together we make a difference.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are so thankful for each and every one of you who has supported us and continues to do so.
We are hopeful to see everyone for the 2022 year!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Our family attended an AAC camp in Ontario that changed our whole mindset.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hannah was 5 yrs old and we fundraised like heck for 2 weeks to get us all there. It was an incredible feeling to be around others who were like-minded with NO pressure to have all our questions prewritten while listening and taking notes at the same time. We wanted to bring the same experience to more families. It is imperative to keep camp accessible, comfortable, and intimate for everyone to breathe and be themselves. You are NOT a number at camp!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let's Build Community!
Bring the WHOLE family! Consider inviting your school team, respite workers, and home support - imagine an entire school team on the same page with parents!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏕🏕🏕🏕
Hannah's Hope AAC Camp is about building and strengthening community for families supporting a child with complex communication needs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A parent’s journey supporting their child can be overwhelming and lonely. During the weekend families will have time to connect with each other and troubleshoot their challenges. Families can expect to walk away feeling more confident in supporting their child’s communication and language development.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a child and family-centred camp; as professionals, we benefit from interacting, observing, and learning from those that know the child best - the parents. Over the 3 days at camp, professionals (OT, PT, SLP, EA, educators) have the opportunity to participate in wide-ranging, targeted problem-solving and collaboration with expert clinicians and school team leaders.

Are we all in the same boat?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am appreciative that in the past 2 years awareness is happening of all kinds of boats.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are NOT in the same boat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Perhaps, we are in a storm together. LIFE
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I want to share part of my journey.

In 2015, I was part of a panel for a large education board in Alberta, gathering conversations around the supports for children with disabilities within the district. I was in attendance as a parent but also craved to listen to the professional conversations being had.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I sat in this meeting and listened. My heart broke.
This is unfair to teachers.
This is unfair to parents.
How are we getting this all wrong?
How can I help serve?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A fire was lit within.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In my van, I was even MORE determined to build the bridge between parents and professionals on NO ONE else’s budget. (We know that funding is ALWAYS lacking. I needed to be the one who could see a solution instead of an excuse.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A golf tournament. A weekend to connect like the one I had experienced the summer prior. And then the solution came: Hannah's Hope Foundation was created. As a community, we can serve the greater community who are navigating challenging waters.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As for our family, some days we are not sure who is steering the boat. But that is just it, we are in this together and navigating the waters each day. And for this, I am grateful.
