✨YIN & SOMA✨

Yin represents the receptive, cool, dark, moist, and inward-moving pole to the Yang principle in Traditional Chinese philosophy & medicine. It governs rest, depth, substance, and the capacity to receive and store life energy (Qi).

In early Vedic texts, Soma is both a sacred plant/elixir and a deity- associated with vitality, nourishment, and the subtle essence that animates life and its complimentary principle Agni.

In later philosophical and somatic interpretations, Soma points to the felt, embodied intelligence of the body- the inner flow of sensation, restoration, and integration.

Across these traditions, we find striking structural similarities:

• Soma & Yin → cooling, nourishing, inward, lunar
• Agni & Yang → heating, transforming, outward, solar

Though arising from different cosmologies, Soma and Yin converge in several key ways:

• Receptivity over force — both emphasize allowing rather than imposing
• Subtle nourishment — they operate through restoration, not stimulation
• Embodied knowing — truth is felt, not abstracted
• Cyclical intelligence — honoring rhythms of rest, integration, and renewal

However, while these correspondences are compelling, historical evidence does not confirm that Chinese Yin–Yang theory is derived from Vedic Soma–Agni cosmology.

Rather, they appear as independent articulations of a shared human insight:
that life unfolds through the rhythmic interplay of activation and restoration, fire and fluid, expansion and contraction.

✨Soma & Food✨

In Ayurveda- the classical medical science of India- Soma is understood not merely as a substance, but as a fundamental principle underlying healing and wellbeing.

It embodies qualities of nourishment, cooling, cohesion, and subtle vitality- the forces that sustain and restore the body. Nutrition rich in Soma support immunity, stability, and a deeper sense of ease within the system.

Food, in this context, is not just caloric intake. It is a primary vehicle for cultivating Soma within the body.

The way food is selected, combined, and prepared directly influences whether it builds:
– Soma (nourishment, softness, resilience)
or
– Agni imbalance (irritation, depletion, instability)

Ayurvedic meal preparation is therefore highly intentional:
🥗Fresh, seasonal ingredients are preferred for their prāṇic (life-force) value
🫕Gentle cooking methods (stewing, steaming, slow cooking) preserve and enhance Soma
🥑 Use of fats like ghee supports lubrication and assimilation
🌿 Spices are not added for flavor alone, but to regulate Agni (digestive fire), ensuring food can be transformed into nourishment rather than into toxins.

In Ayurvedic pharmacology, the same principles apply:
Herbal preparations are rarely given in isolation-
they are combined with specific carriers such as ghee, honey, or warm milk to:
– guide absorption
– enhance bioavailability
– and direct the substance deeper into the tissues

This is Soma in practice:
not just what is taken, but how it is prepared and delivered to the body.

From this perspective, eating can be a healing and alchemical process.

The kitchen is not separate from the clinic.
Cooking is not separate from medicine.

✨Soma & Breath✨

Soma refers not only to the elixir of immortality celebrated in the RigVedas, but also to a direct experience of the alive body felt from within.

Breath is one of the most immediate pathways into this inner landscape.

Conscious breathing influences the autonomic nervous system, gently shifting the body from states of vigilance and contraction toward regulation, fluidity, and responsiveness. As respiratory rhythms slow and deepen, interoceptive awareness- our ability to sense internal states- becomes more refined.

With this, the body often begins to feel more alive:
tingling, subtle waves of movement, expansion, and release.
These are not imagined effects, but neurophysiological responses- linked to changes in CO₂/O₂ balance, vagal tone, and sensory processing.

In this sense, the breath can be understood as our body’s own elixir- an “inner Soma.”
Not something ingested, but something activated from the inside.

Rather than relying solely on “outer Soma”- stimulants, substances, or even medication to shift our state- we can cultivate endogenous states of ease, clarity, and even mild euphoria through breath-induced regulation.

The body holds intrinsic mechanisms for:
• regulation
• restoration
• pleasure
• and healing

We just need to learn the language of our Soma to be able to identify and activate these mechanisms.

✨Soma & Elixir✨

Soma is one of the most intriguing substances described in the ancient Vedic texts- referred to as a sacred drink used in ritual ceremonies to enhance perception, induce visionary states, and connect with the divine.

Rather than being a single ingredient, Soma may have been a carefully prepared plant elixir, combining different botanicals to create a specific physiological and experiential effect during ritual practice.

While its exact composition remains unknown, researchers and authors have proposed different theories over the years.

In “Soma: The Divine Hallucinogen”, David L. Spess suggests that the Blue Lotus and White Lotus are considered likely candidates.

Both plants were used in ancient ceremonial contexts- especially in Egypt- for their calming, mildly euphoric, and consciousness-altering properties. They are known to support relaxation, dream-like awareness, and a subtle opening of sensory perception.

Today, these plants are still used in various ceremonial and wellness settings as a way to explore and expand states of relaxation, presence, and inner awareness.

In honour of this ancient ritual we will also invite the spirit of the Blue Lotus during our opening ceremony of the SOMA Fest over the Summer Solstice weekend! Please get in touch if you’d like to join our HealingArts gathering at the Algarve- there are still a few places available.

✨Confusion & Clarity✨

We are entering a time where language can be manufactured.
Where arguments can sound perfect — and still be empty.
Where persuasion is optimised, scaled, and weaponised.

You can’t out-think everything anymore.
But you can out-feel what’s off.

Before your mind finds the words…
your body already knows.

A subtle contraction in the gut.
A tightening in the chest.
A sense of fog, pressure or urgency.

That’s not weakness.
That’s data.

🜁 The mind can be confused.
🜃 The body registers truth.

Somatic intelligence is becoming a survival skill.

Not to react impulsively…
but to pause, sense, and discern:

✨ Do I feel expanded or contracted?
✨ Am I being rushed, confused, or grounded?
✨ Is this real clarity… or just vanity?

Manipulation often sounds like:
– urgency without space
– confidence without depth
– logic without coherence
– charm without safety

And your nervous system picks that up faster than your intellect ever could.

In SOMA Alchemy – From Confusion to Clarity, we train this capacity:

🔸 Tracking sensation vs story
🔸 Spotting the moment confusion enters the body
🔸 Naming subtle manipulation (in others & ourselves)
🔸 Responding without collapsing, attacking, or freezing
🔸 Returning to grounded, embodied clarity in real time

This isn’t about becoming paranoid.
It’s about becoming precise.

In a world of artificial intelligence, clever rethorics and manipulations,
your Soma is your anchor.

Clarity is no longer just mental.
It’s somatic. It’s relational. It’s practiced.

✨ Refine your inner signal
✨ Trust what you feel and learn to read it well
✨ Come back to clarity

✨ Elements & Survival ✨

What if your stress responses weren’t problems…
but nature moving through you?

In my eco-somatic approach, I relate the 5 nervous system responses to the 5 elements:

🔥 Fight - Fire
💨 Flight - Air
🪨 Freeze - Earth
💧 Fawn - Water
✨ Flow - Æther

Each response is intelligent. Each one is protective.

My eco-somatic bodywork is not about fixing yourself.
It’s about remembering how to regulate through relationship with nature - within and around you.

🌿 Your body is not the problem.
🌿 Your patterns are not mistakes.
🌿 They are maps back to balance.

Your Soma loves you and is showing you the way!

✨Oxytocin & Dopamine✨

🔥 Dopamine — AGNI — Ecstasy
This is the fire.
The spark, the chase, the peak.
Dopamine drives desire, motivation, pursuit.
It lives in anticipation, novelty, intensity.

It’s the rush of the new lover,
the high of achievement,
the pulse of “I want more.”

This kind of pleasure is sympathetically activated —
arousing, activating, outward-moving.

It burns bright.
And it fades fast.

🌊 Oxytocin — SOMA — Bliss
This is the nectar.
The melting, the softening, the being.

Oxytocin is released through touch, trust, safety, connection.
It doesn’t chase — it receives.

It’s the exhale in a lover’s arms,
the warmth of belonging,
the quiet fullness of “nothing is missing.”

This pleasure is parasympathetic —
restful, regenerative, inwardly expansive.

It doesn’t spike.
It saturates.

In a world addicted to dopamine…
we are often overstimulated, yet undernourished.

We confuse intensity for intimacy,
peaks for depth,
ecstasy for true fulfillment.

But the body knows:
🔥 Fire without fuel leads to depletion
🌊 Nectar without movement can become stagnation

The art is not choosing one —
but learning the rhythm between them.

To let AGNI ignite you
and SOMA restore you

To experience ecstasy…
without losing your capacity for bliss.

✨Power & Abuse✨
From a somatic perspective, power can come from very different nervous system states.

• Embodied power comes from regulation, presence and connection.
• Abusive power comes from dysregulation — fear, shame, insecurity and the need to dominate.

This is the difference between empowerment and entitlement.

Empowerment sounds like: “Yes, I can!”
I have power, therefore I take action and accept responsibility.

Entitlement sounds like: “‘Coz I can!”
I have power, therefore I can do whatever I want.

When leaders operate from a dysregulated nervous system, power becomes a tool for distraction, domination and survival politics.

Power used without accountability often tries to:
• distract
• divide
• intimidate
• redirect attention away from truth
as can be very strikingly observed in world politics- especially these days.

Somatically speaking, this is fight-mode leadership.

The body of power is flooded with adrenaline, threat perception and ego defence.

But regulated power feels different.
It protects rather than exploits.
It listens rather than silences.
It serves the collective rather than the ego.

True power does not need to dominate.
It simply needs to be embodied.

This important aspect obviously doesn’t exclude the responsibility from the abusers’ side but points to an even deeper issue within our Western society:

The Epstein files keep resurfacing – and each time, the world is outraged anew.

Outraged at men. At money. At corruption.

But beneath the headlines – beneath the wealth and spectacle – lurks a quieter and more uncomfortable truth that we rarely name…

We live in a world that has always permitted the ruling class of men to objectify women and use them for ornamentation, service, or s*x.

And this conditioning runs so very deep in our society that neither men nor women, parents nor families, question its validity.

We tend to imagine that the greatest protection we can offer our girls is innocence. But innocence, as this culture defines it, often means disconnection.

We teach girls to be polite before we teach them to be perceptive.
To be pleasing before they are allowed to be self-aware.
To override the signals of their own bodies in order to keep adults comfortable.

The problem is not that girls are taught too much about the body. It is that they are taught too little about their own authority within it.

A child who can feel her body – who can recognize tightening, hesitation, curiosity, delight, or dread – possesses an internal compass.

But when we moralize sensation, when we shame curiosity, and when we reward compliance over self-trust, a girl learns to doubt what she feels.

She becomes easier to persuade out of her own knowing.

So it follows that a predator does not depend on secrecy alone. A predator depends on the fact that our girls have been taught NOT to trust their own bodies.

In fact, the most protective factor against s*xual exploitation is not modesty, or chastity, or any measure of self-restraint. It is a state of embodied awareness.

Because a child who can sense: that feels wrong. Or, my stomach tightened. Or, I want to leave…is already much harder to manipulate.

Again and again, our culture convinces girls to override those sensations.

To be polite, and nice, and not make a scene.

So a girl does not think, something is wrong. She thinks: I AM wrong. And that is the psychological opening.

When I say girls should know their pleasure, many people hear “s*xualizing children.” But I am speaking about something entirely different.

Pleasure is not just or**sm. It is the nervous system registering safety, curiosity, aliveness. And importantly, the ability to detect contraction.

Children who are given bodily autonomy at an early age, trust themselves.

Even without sophisticated language skills, they know when they want to come closer and when they want to step back.

The problem is that instead of granting them permission to believe their perception, we teach compliance first and self-knowledge last.

So predators do not have to invent vulnerability. They are handed it by a society founded on patriarchal values.

A girl who has been trained to abandon her own sensation becomes governable. A woman who trusts her sensation becomes sovereign.

The Epstein story continues to strike a cultural nerve because it confronts something we’d prefer to keep hidden: we do not teach our girls that they can refuse adults.

That they do not owe politeness.
That they do not owe access.
That their internal signals are the final word.

Pleasure, in its deepest sense, is the nervous system recognizing truth.

And when a woman of any age learns to inhabit that place of heightened awareness? She can finally choose – what she welcomes, what she refuses, and what she will no longer abandon herself to.

Too often, my work is mistaken for erotic performance.

But what I teach is leagues deeper and far more subversive than that.

In reality, it is the reclamation of a woman’s internal compass – the steady return of intuition as her primary authority.

Which makes some people uneasy.

Because a woman or girl who can clock desire, revulsion, boundary, instinct – is very difficult to control. In relationships. In families. In workplaces. And yes, even in economies.

So this conversation isn’t solely about evil men, though wrongdoing matters deeply.

It’s about a system of disembodiment.
A culture of numbness.
And how sovereignty begins when a woman learns to feel again.
