The Curious Case of Barry's Winter Hibernation
Barry decided that this winter he would do what all sensible creatures do — hibernate.
"No more Tai Chi," he declared. "No more Strength for Life. No more Flexibility classes. It's too cold!"
So, Barry settled into his favourite chair with a blanket, a hot chocolate, and the television remote firmly in hand.
After two weeks, something strange happened.
Getting out of the chair felt harder. His back felt stiffer. His shoulders creaked louder than the floorboards. Even putting on his socks became an Olympic event.
One chilly morning, Barry spotted his friend Margaret walking past after Tai Chi class. She looked cheerful, stood tall, and moved with ease.
"What's your secret?" Barry asked.
Margaret smiled. "I kept coming to class. Tai Chi keeps me moving, Strength for Life keeps me strong, and Flexibility keeps me bending without sounding like a bowl of Rice Bubbles!"
Barry laughed and decided to return.
A few weeks later, he noticed a difference. He felt stronger, steadier, and more energetic. Winter hadn't changed — it was still cold — but he was moving through it much more comfortably.
The lesson? Winter is actually one of the most important times to stay active. Every Tai Chi class helps with balance and wellbeing, every Strength for Life session helps maintain muscle and independence, and every Flexibility class helps keep the body moving freely.
So, this winter, don't let the couch win. Rug up, keep moving, enjoy a laugh with friends, and give your body the gift of movement. Your future self will thank you for it!
