I do it for the kids!! 🤪🤪

No, but really.. healthy fats for babies & ki are *CHEFS KISS* 😙🤌🏻

Pivotal for their brains, nervous systems & hormones (their little bodies are growing FAST). In fact, babies need a much higher percentage of fat in their diet than adults do... there’s a reason breast milk is so gorgeously fatty ✨

🤤 So my top healthy fats are:

• grass-fed, good quality butter (or ghee)
• extra virgin olive oil
• full fat cream & yoghurt
• avocado
• oily fish (salmon, sardines)
• bone marrow
• cheese

It’s a shame what I prep for the kids, I also eat 🫣 hello high calorie porridge that tastes simply divine 🤭🤌🏻

It all checks out! Organic, 3 ingredients, no colours or preservatives or added sugar - but I still WOULDN’T opt for this pouch. 🙅🏻‍♀️

Why?

It’s void of any fat, fibre (that would usually slow down the sugar digestion) or protein so that 12.5g of sugar is still going to react like any other sugar would. ⚡️

We also want to be introducing our 6 months old to other flavour profiles ~ the ‘less desirable’ ones. Think bitter, sour & just savoury foods.

ALL babies will love this puree (our breastmilk & formulas are sweet) so it’s what they are familiar with but we want to raise adventurous little eaters that don’t shy away from normal, wholefoods.

And at 6 months, we can already be influencing this. 🙌🏻

It’s not uncommon for little ones to veer towards firmer textures - whether your baby turns their nose up at purées or your toddler refusing the chia pudding! 🫢

Here are some alternative breaky options, + a good way to help encourage building that safety around soft foods again.

MAKE-AHEAD BREAKY OPTIONS: ✨

• savoury muffins
• sweet (protein) muffins
• baked oat bars
• lamb, beef or chicken koftas
• turkey & quinoa patties

TOAST TOPPINGS 🍞

• avocado + h**p seeds
• ricotta, honey & cinnamon
• egg & mayo paste
• chia berry jam

👶🏻 Food sensory play is a GREAT way to help your child in and around these soft textures, in a safe & trusting environment. This will help them understand they aren’t a ‘threat’, and overtime might help them feel more comfortable.

Try: 🎨

• yoghurt finger painting
• mashing bananas
• cooked & cooled oats

As a follow up from my previous reel, I had a lot of mums expressing concern about what to do if you already have a fussy eater on your hands! 🫨

Truth be told, fussy eating phases are VERY common - and often temporary. (Mind you, Charli turned 4 & it lasted 2-3 months 🤪)

But what helps most:

• staying consistent,
• reducing pressure (BIG one),
• continuing exposure,
• small servings to not overwhelm,
• including familiar & safe foods!

It’s not about perfect meals, and nailing everyday - it’s about building trust around food over time.

In my previous ignorance, I never truly considered this day, or what Mother’s Day can represent for so many women.

This past year, I’ve witnessed this unimaginable kind of pain in two people very close to my heart, and in strangers alike. Its a reality for so many woman, & it has opened my eyes to a grief so many carry quietly.

I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge anyone holding that pain this year. You are seen, your baby is remembered, and your motherhood matters. ❤️‍🩹

Learning how to balance blood sugar (in both yourself as a busy mum & in your toddlers) is a GAME CHANGER ⚡️ - & it doesn’t need to be complicated.

It’s a simple shift - pairing carbohydrates with protein & healthy fats - that can make a HUGE difference to energy, mood & satiety.

In addition to this, opting for complex carbohydrates over refined (think low GI vs high GI) will dramatically change how you feel.

Think:

• fewer crashes (goodbye 10am & 3pm slump)
• fewer meltdowns
