Appreciation post: Meet Kristie Graybill 🌸

We started as colleagues but quickly developed an unspoken human bond. Not only is she a skilled certified birthworker with a Master’s in Education, but she also understands the ethical code of supporting women, parents, and families with a high sense of respect and community. I’m honored to have her in my life and to call her my friend 🥰

Baltimore! If you need a childbirth class (including Spinning Babies), a birth doula, and/or a placenta encapsulator specialist, someone who is kind, professional, and has a solid sense of humor, just call Kristie! Go like her page, check out her website, work, and follow her as she is the future of Baltimore birth work!👍🥇

Bonus: Kristie is excellent at throwing a surprise birthday party! 🙏🥂

The U.S. has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among developed countries — and Black women are still far more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth complications.

This is not just a statistic.
It’s a public health crisis.
It’s families. Mothers. Parents. Babies. Communities.

Every birthing person deserves:
🤍 Respect
🤍 Safe and informed care
🤍 To be heard
🤍 Access to support before, during, and after birth

If you’ve crossed path with one of this ladies, you’re extremely lucky. Don’t get me wrong, you’re looking at the « crème de la crème » and badass Birth Workers! I love and respect every single one of them! They all have a special place in my heart.

Their beautiful souls shine with kindness and compassion.🥰

I definitely needed love and support to embrace this big new decade (ugh 🙄) and you know what the song says « All You Need Is Love! ». I felt so incredibly loved and supported 🫶

Special shout out to my partner in crime and friend: Kristie - Friendship is a beautiful precious thing! 👯‍♀️

The “Captain Morgan” labor position is a standing or supported birthing position where one leg is raised higher than the other — similar to the classic Captain Morgan pose.

When baby is mid pelvis (station 0), It’s often used during labor to:

* Help open one side of the pelvis
* Encourage baby to descend or rotate
* Reduce back labor for some people

How to do it:

* Stand beside a chair, bed, stool, or birth ball
* Place one foot up on the support
* Lean forward slightly or sway
* Switch sides every few contractions

It can also be done:

* During epidural labor with support (in bed)
* On hands and knees with one knee lifted outward
* Using a peanut ball in bed

Many doulas and labor nurses use this position when labor stalls or baby is slightly turned.

Quality postpartum care is essential to keep the new mothers and newborns safe.

Louisiana has long struggled with maternal and infant mortality. In New Orleans, free home visits by nurses help spot medical problems early. It's a reproductive health policy with bipartisan support.
