I recently joined Dr. Venktesh Ramnath on his podcast, Be A Health Architect, for a conversation that was both personal and important.

In the episode, I talk openly about my journey through alcoholism, burnout, and recovery during medical training. For a long time, I was functioning as a physician while struggling privately with addiction - a reality many doctors face, but few feel safe discussing.

We talk about:
• Why physician mental health struggles often stay hidden
• The warning signs of burnout and substance use
• Why early intervention matters
• How changing the culture of medicine can save lives

We also discuss SafeHavenMD, a platform I founded to create confidential peer support for physicians facing burnout, depression, or addiction. Too many doctors suffer silently because they fear stigma or professional consequences when asking for help.

Dr. Ramnath’s concept of becoming a “Health Architect” is powerful - it’s about redesigning your life and career intentionally rather than just surviving the system.
If you’re a physician or healthcare worker who has ever struggled, this conversation is for you.

You’re not alone.

We are proud to announce a strategic partnership between Safe Haven MD and Tend Health to expand access to confidential, high-quality mental health care for physicians and healthcare professionals.

At SafeHavenMD, our purpose has always been to create a space where clinicians can seek support without fear of stigma, career risk, or unnecessary administrative barriers. The emotional demands of healthcare work are real and often overlooked. Too many clinicians suffer quietly because existing systems make help difficult to access or feel unsafe to engage with.
This partnership with Tend Health marks a meaningful step toward transforming that reality. By combining SafeHavenMD’s clinician-centric, confidential platform with Tend Health’s expertise in delivering practical mental health care, we are expanding options tailored to the unique needs of healthcare workers.

We look forward to working with healthcare organizations, leaders, and systems that share our commitment to proactively supporting wellbeing, reducing barriers to care, and strengthening workforce resilience.
This is more than a collaboration. It is a commitment to changing how clinicians experience care.

Proud to share that Safe Haven MD has officially rebranded.

Not to look different,
but to finally feel aligned with the story that built it.

When I created SafeHavenMD, I wasn’t thinking about design or growth.

I was thinking about survival.
About the physicians who break in silence.
About the pain I once carried myself
and how invisible it felt.

SafeHavenMD was born from that space.

From the hope that no physician would ever have to face what I did,
alone.

Over time, the platform grew.
But deep down, something still felt unfinished.
It didn’t fully reflect the heart behind it, the emotion, the story, the truth.

That changed after a conversation with Khaled Farhad and the Brandsquare, LLC team. They helped translate the deeper meaning of SafeHavenMD into something you can see and feel.

This rebrand isn’t about colors or fonts.

It’s about remembering why SafeHavenMD exists, for every physician who’s ever struggled quietly.

The new SafeHavenMD.com carries that truth.

And I’m grateful for the people who helped bring its purpose to life.

Today, September 17, is National Physician Su***de Awareness Day.

• An estimated 300–400 U.S. physicians die by su***de each year.
• Recent surveys find about 15% of physicians have contemplated or attempted su***de.
• Female physicians face a substantially higher su***de risk compared with women in the general population.

I have struggled with thoughts of su***de, and I made it through with compassionate care and understanding. I share this because these losses are preventable and silence costs lives.

SafeHavenMD is our confidential, peer-based support platform designed to help physicians get timely, stigma-free help and keep colleagues safe. Checking in with a colleague can make all the difference in the world. Please reach out to us with any questions.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. Physicians face some of the highest rates of burnout, depression, & su***de, yet stigma keeps many from seeking help.

We’re honored that SafeHavenMD was featured in Medical Daily for our mission to provide confidential, physician-led support - so no doctor struggles in silence.

According to surveys, 20.9% to 43.2% of physicians meet the criteria for depression. Burnout affects nearly half, driven largely by administrative overload and long hours. And substance use, estimated between 10% and 15%, is widely believed to be underreported.

At SafeHavenMD, we know that mental health struggles are often misunderstood, especially within the medical community.

Physicians aren’t immune to these challenges. In fact, we often face them in silence, afraid to seek help or be seen.

This month, and every month, SafeHavenMD is here to remind you: you are not alone and your struggle is valid.

Confidential. Compassionate. Physician-led support.
Let’s break the stigma, starting with us.
