Do you need surgery?

Upholding the rights of the patient is paramount, especially during conflicting medical opinions. In my cardiothoracic world, while surgery is often recommended, it is not necessarily the right thing for some patients.

To do the best by our patients, it is of outmost importance to consider multiple factors before "booking the case" and provide them with an acceptable risk to benefit ratio.

Those include, but are not limited to age, nutrition status, co-morbidities, family/friend support, housing, reliability in following post-op instructions, Etc.

Those factors, when thoroughly identified, help patients reach the right medical decision. And naturally, family is always included. Communication is key.
