We'd like to feature two community-oriented companies for Small Business Week, MettaCasa and Soothease, both owned by Scotch Plains resident, Samantha Kowalczyk. A wife, mom of three, business owner, and breast cancer survivor, she offers health, wellness, and fitness modalities at her storefront, including her specially developed Soothease lollipops made specifically for cancer patients who suffer from dry mouth, oral sores, and a condition which makes most foods taste metallic. Since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, Samantha has been selling produce bags, which contain vegan and vegetarian items. This system of grab-and-go groceries has helped locals, including the Mayor of Scotch Plains, Alexander Smith (pictured), continue social distancing, especially when the thought of traditional shopping causes anxiety.
