NHS Flu Vaccination 2026-2027:

We are pleased to inform our patients that appointments for the upcoming NHS Seasonal Flu Vaccination Service are now open.

To ensure optimal, timely protection prior to peak winter viral activity, the NHS has structured the national rollout in two phases:

Phase 1: Delivery Begins 1st September
- Pregnant Women: Vaccination is available from 1st September to protect both mother and baby ahead of the winter season.

Phase 2: Delivery Begins 1st October
Vaccination will commence for all other eligible adult groups, including:
- Adults aged 65 years and over
- Individuals aged 18 to 64 with underlying long-term health conditions (e.g., chronic respiratory, heart, kidney, or liver disease, diabetes, and immunosuppression)
- Residents of long-stay care homes
- Primary carers and household contacts of immunocompromised individuals
- Frontline social care staff

💉 MenB Vaccine Now Available – Book Your Appointment

The NHS MenB vaccination campaign is now underway, and appointments are available to book through the NHS Booking Service.

Who can get the vaccine?

You are eligible if you are:
✅ Aged 16 to 25 years and
✅ Starting university for the first time this autumn (especially if you’ll be living in student accommodation), or
✅ Have recently started university and missed the vaccine.

Why is it important?

Meningococcal group B (MenB) disease is rare but can become life-threatening very quickly, causing meningitis or blood poisoning (septicaemia). Teenagers and new university students are at increased risk because they often live and socialise closely with others.

Protect yourself before starting university – don’t wait until term begins.

We were proud to welcome our local MP Grahame Morris to the pharmacy— because our village deserves to be heard.

With the GP surgery in Haswell still closed and no reliable public transport, many of our patients are left with nowhere else to go for healthcare.

We made it clear: this isn’t just inconvenient — it’s a real risk to patient health.

During the visit, we highlighted:

• Ongoing closure of the GP surgery in Haswell
• Limited transport making healthcare hard to access
• The growing pressure on community pharmacies

Community pharmacies are now on the front line, often the only place patients can turn to — and we will continue to stand up for our community.

Thank you to our MP for taking the time to visit and listen. This is an issue that needs real action.

We’d like to reassure our patients that there is currently a nationwide supply issue affecting some medicines, including aspirin and co-codamol.

Please be assured that Haswell Pharmacy is working closely with local GP surgeries and suppliers behind the scenes to support everyone’s needs. Where your usual brand or form isn’t available, we may provide a suitable alternative (for example tablets instead of capsules), while keeping you on the same medication wherever possible.

This supply issue is expected to continue for some time, but we are dispensing what we can and doing our best to accommodate every patient.
