My name is Missy Gearhart and I am so honored and excited to be a part of this Ripple Effect movement! My story starts 10+ years ago when I decided to become a vegetarian. I couldn’t shake the idea that there was something very wrong with this country’s meat production industry and therefore could no longer take part in the “demand” portion of the supply and demand equation. Even though I felt str

ongly enough to stop eating meat, I didn’t want to make a decision based only on emotion, so I educated myself. I wanted to make sure my body was getting the nutrition it needed. I began to notice that commercially raised meat was not the only problematic thing we might put into our bodies. There is so much processed “food-like” substances out there that are creating problems in our health – problems that are completely preventable! This curiosity really turned into a passion and I continued to feel better in every way – more energy, vibrancy and clarity, to name a few. I wanted to keep going on this journey of health and wellness, to improve my life and the lives of those I love – and I’ve never looked back! I received my training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Most people know they’re not eating enough fruits and vegetables everyday (it's hard 🤦🏼‍♀️) so 70% of Americans turn to vitamin supplements. But let’s talk about the difference between vitamins and whole food.

A vitamin has 35-50 isolated nutrients in it, whereas an apple has 10,000 nutrients in it! 😮 Each fruit or vegetable has thousands and they work together to protect our bodies. 🤩

There’s no comparison – vitamins barely scratch the surface as far as potential or effectiveness! Science (and history) is telling us over and over to get our nutrients from whole food instead of from isolated nutrients. 🍎

To Keto-diet or not?!?? 🤔🤔🤔

While he admits that the science makes sense if you are looking for quick weight loss, it may come at an incredibly steep price – weight loss in exchange for lifespan. Which do you deem to be the most important in your life?”

I know a few people trying the keto diet or who are cutting carbs, so I am sharing this for you - please know, there is a better, more sustainable lifestyle out there that will prolong your life rather than endanger it! The weight loss may come more slowly, but it will happen in a safe and effective way.

My smoothie helper! This morning we made smoothie bowls. As a mom, I'm so thankful for these since Emma seems to prefer snacking lately... and of course, I want to make sure she's getting the right nutrition for her growing body and developing brain! I snuck so many good things into the smoothie, and she is on her second helping!

I also have the peace of mind that even if she mostly snacks, at least she's getting the micronutrition of 30 fruits, veggies and berries every day... and that goes for me too, since I don't eat perfectly either!

Bonus, she keeps asking for more "nuts" on her smoothie bowl - seeds (and nuts too) are such a great way to add fiber to your diet!

Even though we ate fairly healthy, it was not until I was introduced to this that I realized how little variety of vine-ripened 🍎🍋🍇🍍 and 🍅🍆🌱🍄 we actually consumed on a daily basis - it was nowhere near the 7-13 recommended daily servings!

No, this isn't a replacement for the real thing, but it helps fill in the gap to provide the nutrients our bodies need from the best source of nutrients that nature intended!

I am participating in a 10 day Summer Smoothie Challenge and I'm loving the new recipes that others are sharing! Smoothies are such a great way to sneak in extra plant foods - it is so important to eat as many fruits and veggies as we can every day! Today's plant based smoothie -

1 cup Almond/Cashew milk
1 cup orange juice
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup spinach
1 scoop Vanilla Complete
Half an avocado
Ice cubes
