What a fantastic day for the DocBike Hampshire team at the Emergency Services Show in Fawley! 🏍️🚑☀️

The VERY hot and sunny Bank Holiday weekend meant there was a brilliant turnout. This gave us the absolute pleasure of meeting so many members of the public, riders, and emergency service colleagues!

This event was a great opportunity to promote and discuss rider skills and first aid, and raise awareness of the work DocBike Hampshire does within the local riding community.

Our engagement bike attracted plenty of attention as usual, with lots of people stopping by to chat, learn more about what we do, try the bike for size, and grab a photo opportunity!

A huge thank you to everyone who came over to support us and to the organisers for putting on such a great event. Fawley Parish-Council

🏍️ Meet the Team: John Angell.

Say hello to John, DocBike Hampshire's Deputy Regional Lead, and one of the friendly faces you'll spot at our events. We asked him a few questions:

What inspired you to get involved with DocBike Hampshire? ‘After attending a BikerDown session in Dorset, I wanted to help share the experience and knowledge. When the Hampshire Region started, I wanted to be one of the first to help raise awareness and upskill all bikers in Hampshire’.

🛣️ What's the biggest message you'd like riders to take away? ‘You are never too old to learn, improve or polish your skills’.

🤔 What's one misconception people have of DocBike? ‘Doctors or paramedics riding bikes with blue lights. This is far from the truth. DocBike does so many other things. Riding bikes with blue lights is good, but it would be better if they didn't have to go in the first place’.

🏍️ What bike do you ride and what do you love most about it? ‘I'm a bit greedy! I have a BMW R1200GS, a Honda NC750 DCT and a Vespa GTS 300 Scooter. The BMW is a great cruiser, the Honda is lighter and nice for events and commuting, and the Vespa is just for fun (and we do have so much fun!).

💭 If money were no object, what would be your dream motorbike? "That's a difficult question! Probably an Indian Chief or Chieftain, or an old Brough Superior. What can I say, I'm peculiar."

☕ When not working, volunteering or on the bike; what do you like to do with your spare time? ‘Spare time, well… I do spend a lot of time riding with our motorbike and scooter friends, and I spend time at my local motorcycle club. It's nice to be out and about, usually riding around to local cafes for something to eat. So eating and socialising’.

Thanks for everything you do, John! Hampshire's riders are luckier for it. 🧡

If you've ever thought about joining the team, or fancy a free BikerDown session, drop us a message.

Five minute chain check🏍️🔧

- Place your bike on its centre stand or paddock stand.
- Rotate the wheel and check for stiff links or tight spots.
- Too slack and your chain wears quicker, and can possibly come off and damage your wheel and engine casing.
- Too tight and you will stress the wheel bearings and also accelerate chain link wear (also can make horrible noises!).
- Too dry and the chain will become hot and wear quickly.

Always check your chain tension by finding the tightest spot with the wheels raised and the suspension unloaded.

Adjust it to your manufacturer's specifications.

If you're unsure, consult a mechanic / professional.

A properly adjusted and lubricated chain will last 2-3 times longer.

🏍️ Meet the Team: Chris Wood, Regional Lead for DocBike Hampshire and Frontline Paramedic!

▸ What inspired you to get involved?🤩 'I was looking for somewhere to make a difference in my local community. I knew of DocBike but didn't know much about them; volunteering to set up and lead DocBike Hampshire felt like the perfect balance of supporting my community and putting my experiences to good use.'

▸ Biggest misconception about DocBike?❓ 'People think we're all clinical, or that we're out to show off. The reality is that while a clinical background helps when delivering courses, what matters more is that the diversity of our riding community is recognised and represented; so we can share DocBike's research, deliver courses like NextGen, and work with our statutory authority partners.'

▸ Key message for riders?🔑 'Know the common places and reasons why bikers crash. It sounds obvious, but most of the time we don't think it'll happen to us. If you understand why bikers crash, hopefully you'll expect it and avoid it.'

▸ What do you ride and love most about it? 😍'I ride a Moto Guzzi Stelvio. There aren't many about of this age, and sometimes it's easy to see why; the 'unique' noises and transverse engine are an acquired taste! But I love it for the places it's taken me, and for that brief moment when it's not in the workshop, it makes me really happy to be out exploring Hampshire.'

▸ Dream bike? 🙏 'I'll be honest; I don't know many bikes, luckily I have volunteers to advise me! Can I have more than one? I'd love us to have a BMW RT1250-P to raise our profile as a charity, and personally, a nuts and bolts rebuild of my current bike plus a Fireblade for its handling.'

Want to get involved? As DocBike Hampshire grows, we're looking for riders and clinicians who share our passion - whether that's volunteering, supporting our courses, or simply helping spread the word. Drop us a message or comment below. 👇

Are you a Hampshire biker? We've got something in the works for you! 🔒

We're teaming up with Donna Jones for Mayor, Police & Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, to bring premium disc locks to Hampshire residents at a heavily subsidised price. Exciting right?

We're still finalising the details, but we wanted you to know it's coming 🤩

Stolen motorcycles don't just hurt the owner. They're ridden hard, with no gear and on live roads. Good security matters more than most riders think.

Motorcyclists are 1% of UK road traffic but 21% of fatalities.

That gap doesn't close on its own. It closes when riders are represented at every level.

We were there. We'll keep showing up.

Give us a follow to see what we're working on across Hampshire.

Many motorcyclists don't know this. After a major trauma, the first 60 minutes is where the difference between survival or not is made.

It's called the Golden Hour ⌛.

What happens in that Golden Hour can be the difference between your riding mate thanking you later or not.

That's why DocBike champions courses such as BikerDown and Next Gen.

Because if you're riding with someone and something goes wrong, you might just be the most important person there.

Tag your riding mates who should know this.

Quick Win Wednesday - Tyre Pressures

Most riders don't notice until something already feels off. Correct pressure means better grip, better fuel economy and longer tyre life. So, grab your gauge and check both wheels against the spec in your handbook. It takes just a few minutes.

What quick tyre tip would you give a new rider?
