A few months ago, our group had the rare privilege of encountering Buffel, the elephant seal.
Elephant seals go through what’s known as a “catastrophic molt” — once a year, they shed their entire outer layer of skin and fur. It’s a slow, intense process that takes about a month.
During this time, they haul out on land, still and quiet, living off fat reserves, conserving every bit of energy.
Buffel reminded us how powerful nature is, even in moments of stillness and surrender.
