Why do we swipe the cornea before laser eye surgery. 👁️

It’s a small step that makes a real difference. Before the femtosecond laser, we swipe a balanced saline solution across the surface of the eye. This evens out the tear film, the thin layer of moisture sitting on your cornea.

Here’s why it matters. A tear film can naturally vary from around 3 to 10 microns thick, and even a few microns of difference can affect the final result. By homogenising it, we give every eye the same starting point, so our results are consistent and reproducible from patient to patient.
