In a world that constantly teaches us to choose everyone else before we choose ourselves, choosing you can feel almost rebellious.
I have such a soft spot for moms. So many of my friends and family are stepping into this beautiful season of motherhood—a season filled with immense love, but also the quiet complexity of self-sacrifice.
I’ve lived it, and I’ve watched the narrative of self-sacrifice be paraded as a badge of honour for generations. It has echoed through the women in my lineage, where putting yourself last was often seen as the measure of love.
Yesterday, my mom and I had one of the many conversations we often return to: the importance of looking after ourselves. We spoke about something I believe deeply—
Rest isn’t something you’re meant to earn. That’s a hill I’ll die on!
You don’t have to reach breaking point before you deserve a pause.
You don’t have to pour from an empty cup to prove your love.
And you don’t have to lose yourself in order to show up for the people you care about.
Whatever season of life you’re navigating right now, I pray you begin choosing you.
Not out of selfishness, but from the understanding that caring for yourself allows you to love, lead, nurture, and serve from a place of wholeness rather than depletion.
Because you matter too. 🤍🌻
