💪 Activate Your Transverse Abdominis
Your transverse abdominis (TA) is one of your deepest abdominal muscles and plays an important role in core stability and spinal control.

Learning to activate it correctly can help you:
✔️ Improve core stability
✔️ Support your lower back
✔️ Improve posture and movement control
✔️ Build a strong foundation for exercise and everyday movement

Start with the basics: breathe out gently, draw your lower abdomen inward without holding your breath, and maintain the activation while breathing normally.

Quality over quantity — focus on controlled, precise activation rather than simply “bracing” as hard as possible.

💪 Strength testing isn’t just about how strong you feel — it’s about measuring what your body can actually do.

In this video, Nicole undergoes isokinetic strength testing of the knee, shoulder and hip to assess muscle strength, balance and performance across different joints.

📊 Isokinetic testing allows us to objectively measure strength and identify side-to-side differences, muscle imbalances and areas that may need further strengthening.

We use objective testing to guide individualised exercise programmes and track progress over time.

Because what gets measured can be managed — and what gets managed can improve. 🔥

Which exercises really fire up your hamstrings?

Not all hamstring exercises create the same level of muscle activation.

Here are the top 4 exercises showing high hamstring activity — from unilateral bridges to sliders and hip extension.

The key? Exercise selection matters. The right movement can help you build strength, improve muscle recruitment and support better movement performance.

We use evidence-based exercise prescription to help you move stronger, recover better and perform at your best. 🏃‍♀️

EXTRA WEIGHT. MORE JOINT LOAD? 🦵

Our joints are designed to handle load — but as body weight increases, the forces placed on the spine, hips, knees and ankles can also increase.
This doesn’t mean that weight alone causes joint pain or damage. Joint health is influenced by many factors, including muscle strength, movement patterns, activity levels, previous injuries and overall fitness.

💪 Your body can become stronger and more resilient.
Biokinetics can help you:
• Improve muscle strength and endurance
• Improve joint stability and movement
• Build capacity for everyday activities
• Reduce the impact of inactivity
• Exercise safely and progressively

Movement is part of the solution.

Hi everyone! I’m Nicole, born and raised in the Vaal, and for the past six years I’ve been living in America, where I got to chase two of my childhood dreams, running competitively in America while earning my degree along the way. After six amazing years abroad, I’ve finally made my way back home to South Africa! I’m so excited to start this new chapter and officially be part of the Dream Team. I can’t wait to get to know everyone! 🫶🏼

Meet our new team member, Francois Lagrange 😎

Hi, I am Francois and here is a little "get to know me":

I have a philosophy about biokinetics: one has to find the root cause of the problem and address that - only then will we see successful long term results (I guess that counts as a life philosophy aswell...)

I have a different philosophy on life, best summarised as a quote: "the comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there"... Powerful stuff.

I studied B. Biokinetics at the University of the Free State (UFS) and have since been working in both private practice, with sports academies and schools which has lead me to realise that not all rehabilitation looks the same but instead rehabilitation needs to be greatly tailored to specific needs and each individual case.

Francois has excellent experience and is ready to get you going on your bio journey 👊

Knee pain that gets worse at night isn't something to ignore.

While it may seem strange that your knee hurts more when you're resting, nighttime pain can be linked to inflammation, osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, or increased sensitivity of irritated tissues.

The key is finding the underlying cause—not just treating the symptoms.
With a thorough assessment and a personalised rehabilitation programme, many causes of knee pain can be managed effectively, helping you move more comfortably during the day and sleep better at night.

If knee pain is disrupting your sleep or limiting your daily activities, it may be time to have it assessed.

Not all "loose" joints are the same.
Joint laxity simply means a joint has more movement than average. Many people with joint laxity have no pain or limitations.

Instability, on the other hand, occurs when a joint can't stay controlled during movement. This can lead to pain, a feeling that the joint is "giving way," recurrent injuries, and reduced confidence in everyday activities or sport.

The good news? In many cases, targeted strengthening, improved muscle control, and proprioceptive training can help improve joint stability and reduce injury risk.

If your joints feel unstable or you're experiencing recurring sprains or dislocations, a professional assessment can help identify the cause and guide the right rehabilitation.

Good posture isn't about looking perfect—it's about helping your body move and feel its best.

The way you sit, stand, lift and walk places stress on your spine every day. Small changes to your posture can reduce unnecessary strain, improve movement, and help prevent aches and pains over time.

Remember:
✔️ Stand tall
✔️ Sit with good support
✔️ Lift with your legs, not your back
✔️ Avoid prolonged slouching
✔️ Keep the spinal stabilizer muscles strong and active

Your spine supports you every day—take care of it.

Your hips do a lot more than just move—they provide stability, absorb force, and help transfer power with every step, squat, kick, or run.

A tear in the hip labrum can lead to pain, clicking, stiffness, and reduced performance. While some tears occur after a traumatic injury, many develop gradually from repetitive movements or underlying structural differences in the hip.

Early assessment and the right rehabilitation can help reduce pain, improve movement, and get you back to doing what you love.

Think your hip pain is "just tightness"? It might be worth getting it assessed.
