Got questions about Lenacapavir? We’ve got you covered.
Know more about Lenacapavir, a long acting HIV prevention injection administered once every six months for individuals at high risk of HIV infection. It is important to remember that Lenacapavir does not replace essential measures such as regular condom use to prevent STIs and unwanted pregnancy.
Before receiving your Lenacapavir injection, you first need to test for HIV. It’s that simple. Visit your nearest participating facility to see if you qualify for Lenacapavir, and get protection for up to six months.

Your eyes may be at risk even if they feel fine. Age, family history and chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure increase the risk of glaucoma. Because it is painless in the early stages, testing is key. Take action early and make eye checks part of your health routine.

The Gauteng Department of Health strengthened HIV prevention efforts with the rollout of Lenacapavir, a long-acting HIV prevention injection administered once every six months, which became available at 133 healthcare facilities across the province.

We were at Chiawelo Community Health Centre in Soweto, where young people, key populations, s*x workers, and people who inject drugs, among others, were being initiated on Lenacapavir. This innovative prevention option expanded access to care and offered a more convenient choice for individuals who found it difficult to use daily prevention methods.

Our health promotion teams, together with nurses, provided essential education on how Lenacapavir worked, its benefits, and the importance of combination prevention in reducing the risk of HIV infection. This included encouraging regular testing and consistent use of prevention services.
It was important for the public to understand that Lenacapavir formed part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package and did not replace other critical interventions such as regular HIV testing, condom use, prevention and treatment of s*xually transmitted infections, voluntary medical male circumcision, and treatment for people living with HIV.

Leading by example and encouraging employees to empower themselves academically, the Chief Executive Officer of Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, Dr Fhatuwani Mbara, recently graduated with a PhD in Public Health (Doctor of Philosophy) from the University of Venda.

Basking in the glory of his latest achievement, Dr Mbara admits that he had, at one stage, considered pausing the qualification, but the words of encouragement from his mother carried him through.
