🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 9

Protecting My Peace vs Avoiding Accountability

"I'm protecting my peace."

This phrase has become one of the most popular messages on social media.

And sometimes it's exactly what we need.

Protecting your peace can mean:

✨ Setting healthy boundaries

✨ Limiting exposure to negativity

✨ Walking away from harmful situations

✨ Prioritizing your mental and emotional wellbeing

But sometimes, "protecting my peace" can become a way to avoid:

❌ Difficult conversations

❌ Honest feedback

❌ Taking responsibility

❌ Repairing damaged relationships

The truth is, growth isn't always peaceful.

Sometimes healing requires uncomfortable conversations.

Sometimes personal growth requires hearing things we'd rather avoid.

Sometimes accountability is part of protecting our peace, not a threat to it.

Healthy peace isn't about avoiding every challenge.

It's about having the courage to face life's challenges with honesty, self-awareness, and emotional maturity.

Peace should help us grow, not hide from growth.

πŸ’ Have you ever seen "protecting my peace" used as a healthy boundaryβ€”or as a way to avoid accountability?

The Ritual: Release & Renewal

What You Need:A quiet space in your home A small candle, pen and a few slips of paper and a heat-safe bowl

1. Set the Space::

Clear your room or immediate area by tidying up or lighting a stick of ethically-sourced incense or using a diffuser to clear stagnant energy.

2. The Release:

(What to let go of):As twilight falls and the sun sets early, light your candle or fire. On the first slip of paper, write down habits, fears, or limiting thoughts from the past year that you want to leave behind. Safely burn this paper in your heat-safe bowl, visualizing the darkness of the flame taking away these heavy burdens.

3. The Intention:

(What to call in):On the second slip of paper, write down 1 to 3 core intentions or goals you want to grow as the days slowly begin to get longer. Hold the paper to your heart and breathe deeply. Fold it toward yourself and place it near or underneath your un-extinguished candle.

4. The Meditation:

Sit in the stillness of the long winter night. Close your eyes, feel the heat of the fire or candle, and imagine the sun’s rays slowly returning to you over the coming weeks. For more ideas on how different cultures in the region mark the season, explore the diverse perspectives on The Citizen or read about Southern Hemisphere solstice traditions.

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 8

The "Cut Everyone Off" Culture

"Protect your peace. Cut them off."

Sometimes ending a relationship is necessary.

Some people are abusive, toxic, manipulative, or repeatedly disrespect your boundaries.

But social media often presents cutting people off as a sign of strength, growth, and self-respect in every situation.

Real life is rarely that simple.

Not every disagreement is toxicity.

Not every mistake deserves permanent removal.

Not every difficult conversation requires a dramatic exit.

Healthy relationships involve communication, accountability, repair, and growth.

Sometimes protecting your peace means walking away.

Sometimes it means having an honest conversation.

Sometimes it means setting a boundary instead of ending a relationship.

Growth isn't measured by how many people you remove from your life.

It's measured by how well you navigate relationships with wisdom, self-respect, and emotional maturity.

πŸ’ Have you noticed social media encouraging people to cut others off too quickly? Where do you think healthy boundaries end and isolation begins?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 7

Love Bombing Disguised as Romance

"It felt like a fairytale."

Constant messages.
Endless compliments.
Big promises.
Instant attachment.

At first, it can feel exciting, flattering, and deeply romantic.

But healthy relationships are built over time.

Trust develops gradually.

Connection grows through consistency.

Love bombing happens when overwhelming affection, attention, or promises are used to create a fast emotional attachment before a real foundation has been built.

The problem isn't kindness.

The problem isn't affection.

The problem is when the intensity moves faster than the relationship itself.

Healthy love doesn't rush you.

It allows space to get to know each other.

It respects boundaries.

It grows steadily rather than overwhelming you.

Real connection isn't measured by how intense it feels in the beginning.

It's measured by how consistent, respectful, and trustworthy it remains over time.

πŸ’ Have you ever mistaken intensity for compatibility? What do you think is the difference between genuine affection and love bombing?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 6

Ghosting as Empowerment

"You don't owe anyone an explanation."

Sometimes that's true.

If a relationship is unsafe, abusive, manipulative, or threatening, protecting yourself should always come first.

But social media has increasingly framed ghosting as a sign of strength, self-respect, and empowerment in every situation.

The reality is more nuanced.

Ending a relationship, friendship, or connection respectfully is often uncomfortable.

It requires honesty.

It requires communication.

It requires emotional maturity.

Ghosting may avoid an uncomfortable conversation in the moment, but it can leave the other person confused, hurt, and searching for answers.

Healthy boundaries don't always mean disappearing.

Sometimes they mean clearly communicating that a relationship is no longer aligned and choosing to move forward with respect.

Not every ending needs a long explanation.

But not every ending needs silence either.

πŸ’ Do you think ghosting is ever appropriate? Where do you think the line is between self-protection and avoiding a difficult conversation?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 5

Playing Hard to Get

"If they like you, make them work for it."

Social media often teaches us that being unavailable, delaying replies, acting uninterested, or creating distance makes us more attractive.

But does it?

Or does it simply create confusion?

There is a difference between:

✨ Having standards
and
❌ Playing games

There is a difference between:

✨ Protecting your energy
and
❌ Pretending not to care

Healthy relationships don't require manipulation to maintain interest.

They don't require mixed signals, emotional guessing games, or strategic silence.

The strongest connections are built when both people feel safe to be genuine.

Being interested isn't desperate.

Being honest isn't weak.

Being authentic isn't unattractive.

The people who are right for you won't value you because you're difficult to reach.

They'll value you because you're real.

πŸ’ What's your opinion? Is "playing hard to get" harmless flirting or an unhealthy relationship strategy?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 4

Testing People Instead of Communicating

"I won't tell them what's wrong. If they really care, they'll know."

Sound familiar?

Many of us have been taught that people should automatically know what we need, how we feel, or what upset us.

But healthy relationships aren't built on mind-reading.

They're built on communication.

Creating secret tests to see if someone cares often leads to disappointment, resentment, and misunderstandings.

The truth is:

Someone can love you deeply and still not know what you're thinking.

Expressing your needs doesn't make them less valid.

It makes it possible for others to understand and meet them.

Healthy communication says:
πŸ—£οΈ "This is what I need."

Unhealthy testing says:
❓ "Let's see if they figure it out."

Relationships thrive when expectations are spoken, not hidden.

πŸ’ Have you ever caught yourself testing someone instead of telling them what you needed?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 3

"Make Them Jealous"

"If they get jealous, it means they care."

We've all heard this advice.

Post the photo.
Mention the other person.
Make them wonder.
Make them chase.

But jealousy isn't proof of love.

It's often a sign of insecurity, fear, or uncertainty.

Healthy relationships aren't built by provoking reactions. They're built through trust, honesty, and emotional safety.

If someone only pays attention when they're afraid of losing you, the real issue isn't a lack of jealousyβ€”it's a lack of communication.

Love shouldn't require emotional games to keep someone's interest.

The healthiest connections don't make you compete for attention.

They make you feel valued without having to prove your worth.

πŸ’ Have you ever seen "make them jealous" advice online? Do you think it strengthens relationships or damages trust?

🚨 Not Every Trend Is Healing – Day 2

Silent Treatment vs Healthy Boundaries

"Maybe if I stop talking to them, they'll understand how I feel."

The silent treatment and healthy boundaries are not the same thing.

A boundary communicates:
πŸ—£οΈ "I need some time to process. Let's talk tomorrow."

The silent treatment communicates:
❌ Nothing.

Healthy boundaries create clarity and respect.

The silent treatment often creates confusion, anxiety, and emotional distance.

Taking space is healthy.

Using silence to punish, control, or force a reaction is not.

The difference isn't the distance.

The difference is communication.

πŸ’ Have you ever experienced the difference between someone setting a boundary and someone giving the silent treatment?
