World Mental Health Day!

Your mental health matters. 💚 Remember that it’s okay to pause, rest, ask for help, and take time for yourself. You don’t have to be strong all the time, and you don’t have to face everything alone. Be kind to yourself and to others, because everyone is fighting a battle we may know nothing about.

Your feelings are valid. Your struggles matter. You matter. Be kind. Be understanding. Be there for one another.

The Secret to "Rest and Digest"

We often talk about the "glow" of a treatment, but that glow is a biological process. To fully absorb the nutrients from a medical-grade facial or to heal efficiently after microneedling, the body must be in a Parasympathetic state – known as "Rest and Digest."

This state is triggered by Alpha and Theta brainwaves. However, most clients walk through your doors in a "High Beta" state, meaning in a stressed, overthinking and stuck in a "fight or flight" mindset. In this state, the body redirects blood flow away from the skin and gut to the muscles. Essentially, a stressed client is biologically closed for repair. No matter the serum or injectable, the body cannot fully "digest" the benefit.

The NeuroVIZR Revolution

To solve the stress problem, we implement NeuroVIZR. Using advanced light and sound patterns, it gently guides the brain out of the "Beta" noise and into the Alpha/Theta healing zones in minutes. This primes the Central Nervous System (CNS), ensuring the body is in the optimal state to absorb spa or aesthetic treatments like Skin Rejuvenation.

Tightening, lifting, or contouring: Why booking the wrong treatment won't fix the right problem - By .nikolic

They may sound similar, but these three popular treatments target different structures, and choosing the wrong one can leave you disappointed

Often, you look in the mirror and notice your jawline isn’t as defined as it used to be. Your cheeks seem to have dropped slightly, or your skin looks thinner and less firm. The temptation is to search for a treatment that promises to tighten, lift, or contour, and to choose whichever sounds closest to the problem. But according to aesthetic medicine specialist and owner of the Dr Alek Nikolic Practice, that’s where many patients go wrong.

“Patients often come into a consultation already knowing what treatment they think they need, " he says. “But the visible concern isn’t always being caused by the structure they think it is. A jawline can look less defined because of skin laxity, sagging, excess fat, or a combination of all three, and each requires a different approach.”

When it comes to aesthetic treatments, the language can be confusing. Tightening, lifting, and contouring are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing, and choosing between them isn’t simply a matter of preference. Each treatment works on a different structure, using a different approach to address a specific concern and achieve a particular result.

The Business of Belonging

What makes a guest want to return to a spa?

It may be the treatment, the surroundings or the service — but increasingly, it is something deeper: the feeling of belonging.

The spas people remember are often those where they feel recognised, welcomed and genuinely connected.

That changes the relationship from a simple transaction into an experience they want to repeat — and, ultimately, a relationship with the brand.

So perhaps the question for every spa is:

Are we creating places people visit, or places people feel they belong?

✨ Creative Saturday | Time to Spa!

Creative Saturday? Start with a little time for yourself. ✨

Step into the robe, leave the busy world behind, and let the day slow down. Whether it’s a treatment, a quiet moment or simply choosing to pause, self-care is always time well spent.
Because sometimes the best plans begin with: “Today, I’m going to the spa.” 🌿💆‍♀️

A Celebration of Spa Excellence

https://issuu.com/lesnouvellessouthafrica/docs/les_nouvelles_esthetiques_spa_magazine_120

This issue of Les Nouvelles Esthétiques & Spa is particularly special as we celebrate the people, places and ideas shaping our industry.

At its heart are the Spa Awards, celebrating spa excellence across our remarkable spa landscape and recognising the passion, creativity and commitment behind these outstanding businesses. From day, hotel and boutique hotel spas to safari experiences, unique concepts and aesthetic institutes, the Awards remind us just how diverse and dynamic our industry has become.

Yet this issue is about much more than awards. The supporting editorials take us on a journey through the evolving world of wellness — exploring design, nature, heritage, science, longevity, innovation and the increasingly important connection between experience and wellbeing, while recognising the essential role of our therapists throughout.

Together, these articles reflect an industry that continues to question, evolve and inspire. We celebrate established spa excellence while opening the door to new thinking and fresh possibilities.

Enjoy the read.

The Future-Proof Spa: Where Trends Become Timeless

The wellness industry is evolving quickly, but the spas that will thrive are not necessarily the ones chasing every new trend.

Future-proofing is about knowing what to embrace, what to refine, and what should never be lost.

Guests may expect more technology, more personalised experiences and more science-backed wellness, but they will still remember the fundamentals: how they were welcomed, how safe they felt, whether they felt understood, and whether the experience genuinely restored them.

The future of spa lies in balance.

Innovation with authenticity.
Science with humanity.
Efficiency with empathy.
Growth with purpose.
Evidence with experience.

Because while trends will continue to change, the human need for restoration, connection and wellbeing remains timeless.
