A Tribute to My Father in Barzakh🤲

I wanted to be a CA, so my father told me I would get bored with the numbers, and convinced me to become a Dr.

I wanted to quit in 2nd year as I struggled to dissect the human body, and became vegetarian for a while, but my parents duaas pulled me through that year.

My Daddy got me married in 3rd year in grand style, as my parents didn't believe in me having a boyfriend

My Daddy continued to pay my fees and he & my mum continued to support me financially as my husband and I were students.

My Daddy bought me my first car in 4th year, so I had wheels to go to hospital to do my clinical rounds.

My parents always made sure I had meals when I had to work long hours and late nights

I lived his dream to be a Dr, as he could not go to high school and further his dreams, as he grew up in Apartheid South Africa

There were years when he struggled to pay varsity fees as my parents put two kids through medical school around a similar time.

My dad & mum supported me when I had my daughters in my intern year and my community serve year, even though my mum had brain surgery due to late onset hydrocephalus and had a short period of amnesia

My dad organised me jobs to do locums

My dad built me my first surgery as an outbuilding, where I worked for 20 years, and even got pamphlets printed to distribute in lenz, to advertise the new Dr on the block

It was a difficult journey financially and physically for myself and my parents to be where I am today.

My reward for the good work I do goes to my father and my mother, as I would not be where I am today, if it wasn't for his vision in seeing me becoming a Dr to serve the community I was born into. Even though my parents moved away from lenz in 1999, and I moved my home away from lenz in 2012 after my dad was murdered in 2010, and my mum developed dementia in 2005, I will most likely retire from my roots, when Allah plans.

Most of all, my dads & mums duaas ( prayers ) pulled me through my school years, my medical school days, rearing my kids and establishing my practice

I dont regret becoming a Dr, God's plan ✨
Forever in my duaas 😭
Love you Daddy( and mummy )
