Beyond the Baseline: Aaron Nkosi Proves that Ability is a State of Mind

They say life begins at 40, but for Mr. Aaron Nkosi, age 50 is where the game truly heats up. Hailing from Middelburg, Mpumalanga, Aaron isn’t just a sports enthusiast; he is a powerhouse athlete for Mpumalanga ParaVolley SA, proving that passion knows no bounds and "disability" is a label that pales in comparison to "determination”.

Aaron recently took his journey from the heart of Mpumalanga to the scenic courts of Stellenbosch, Western Cape, to compete in the South Africa National Club Championships.

This isn't just a tournament; it’s the pinnacle of domestic competition where high-performance athletes are selected to represent our nation on the world stage.

The Experience of Being "Seen" For many, sport is about the score. For Aaron and the ParaVolley community, it’s about visibility. As athlete Kedibone Malematja once said, "We are like family in the sport".

In the world of Sitting Volleyball, the court becomes a space where physical barriers vanish. When Aaron sits on that floor to serve, he isn't a person with a disability—he is a strategist, a teammate, and a competitor. As another athlete, Vincent, perfectly captured the feeling: "Since I started playing the game I never wanted to stop... I am loving it”.

That sentiment of "never wanting to stop" is what drove Aaron to travel across provinces, fuelled by the mission of ParaVolley SA to motivate grassroots participation and build a national identity through sport.

A Mission of Inclusion ParaVolley South Africa (PSA) works tirelessly to ensure athletes like Aaron feel both seen and able through awareness events and national championships, they provide a pathway for psychological well-being and high-performance success, for Aaron competing in Stellenbosch wasn't just about a medal, it was about fulfilling the dream voiced by many in the sport: "We want to achieve more… we are learning all the time".

As Mpumalanga Disability Business Forum (MDBF), Aaron is a member we proud of and we are willing to support His endeavours in sports, business and education, as we empower people of all ages and backgrounds to be able to make a difference.

He is appointed to coordinate a national ParaVolley SA sometime later the year of which His wishes is success, as we all wish that to materialise. As He is part of the Provincial Team, He is also a great asset to His community of Steve Tshwete to also lay expertise and experience to those of great interest too.

From the streets of Middelburg to the national stage in the Western Cape, Aaron Nkosi is a reminder that when we create space for everyone to play, we don't just see a person with a disability — we see a champion.
