Not all wound cleansers are created equal.

A product we LOVE: Drawtex®️ Antimicrobial Wound Cleansing Solution

Because good wound care isn’t about using more products. It’s about using the right products, for the right wound, at the right time.

As a mom of two and a wound care specialist, I’m always looking for products that are effective, gentle, and simple to use.

One product I keep reaching for is Drawtex Hypochlorous Solution. 💙

✨ Why I love it:
* Gently cleans wounds without causing unnecessary irritation.
* Helps reduce bacteria and supports a clean wound environment.
* Suitable for fragile and sensitive skin, making it a great option for children when used as directed.
* Easy to use at home or in the clinic.

Whether it’s scraped knees from playground adventures or caring for more complex wounds, good wound cleansing is one of the most important steps in supporting healing.

Remember: every wound is different, so if you’re unsure how to care for a wound or if it’s not healing as expected, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

She might be the patient. She might be the one changing the dressing. She might be both. 🤍

Women are everywhere in wound care.

We are the women sitting in hospital beds, learning to live with scars and healing wounds.

We are the mothers holding our children’s hands through painful dressing changes.

We are the nurses who walk into a room and see more than just a wound.

We are the healthcare professionals teaching, researching, advocating and finding better ways to help people heal.

And sometimes, we are all of these women at different points in our lives.

That’s what makes women in wound care so special.

We understand vulnerability.
We understand caregiving.
We understand resilience.
And we understand that healing is never just physical.

So today, I’m celebrating the women on both sides of the dressing.

The women being cared for.
The women doing the caring.
And every woman helping another woman feel a little less alone.

Because behind every wound is a person — and behind so much of wound care are women. 🤍

Tag a woman in wound care who deserves to be celebrated. 👇

It may seem small, but a blister can quickly become something much more serious-especially if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or reduced sensation in your feet.

A simple blister can be a deeper, larger issue, develop into a chronic wound, or delay healing if left untreated.

Early assessment and the right wound care can make all the difference. If a blister isn’t improving, is becoming more painful, or you’re unsure how to care for it, don’t wait. Seeking professional advice early can help prevent complications and support faster healing. Your feet carry you every day-give them the care they deserve.

There are many myths about wound care, the above as an example.

“Wounds should be left to dry out”

Fact: wounds heal best in a moist environment.

The right dressing selection will ensure healing and reduce the risk of infection. If wounds show signs of infection, seek professional advice to get the right treatment.

A burn can happen in seconds—but what you do in the next 20 minutes can make a big difference.

If someone is burned:

💧 Cool the burn under cool (20-24 degree celcius) running water for 20 minutes.
❌ Don’t use ice, butter, toothpaste, or home remedies.

👕 Remove tight clothing or jewellery near the burn if it’s not stuck to the skin.

🩹 Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick dressing or cling wrap (not wrapped tightly).

🏥 Seek medical attention for large burns, deep burns, burns on the face, hands, feet or ge****ls, chemical or electrical burns, or any burn in children under 1. Ensure that any child’s burn is assessed according to their Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) for the right assessment and management.

Burns are common, especially in children, but knowing the right first aid can reduce skin damage, ease pain, and improve healing.

Today was all about hands-on learning, practical skills, and a little fun! 🩹💙

We spent the day practicing different dressing techniques for a variety of wound care situations - and even wore the dressings ourselves to better understand the comfort (and sometimes discomfort) our patients experience.

A heartfelt thank you to Heart for the Wounded and DEBRA South Africa for sharing your knowledge, expertise, and passion. Together, we’re continually improving the care and compassion we provide.

Wound tip Wednesday: Not all wounds need antibiotics.

We assess wound infection according to the International Wound Infection Institutes Wound Infections Continuum (IWII WIC).

Comment “infection” for a link to the continuum.

The right treatment and advice can make all the difference. If you have a wound that isn’t healing as expected, don’t wait, early assessment by a qualified wound care proffessional can help prevent complications and support a faster recovery.
