Tightening, lifting, or contouring: Why booking the wrong treatment won't fix the right problem - By .nikolic
They may sound similar, but these three popular treatments target different structures, and choosing the wrong one can leave you disappointed
Often, you look in the mirror and notice your jawline isn’t as defined as it used to be. Your cheeks seem to have dropped slightly, or your skin looks thinner and less firm. The temptation is to search for a treatment that promises to tighten, lift, or contour, and to choose whichever sounds closest to the problem. But according to aesthetic medicine specialist and owner of the Dr Alek Nikolic Practice, that’s where many patients go wrong.
“Patients often come into a consultation already knowing what treatment they think they need, " he says. “But the visible concern isn’t always being caused by the structure they think it is. A jawline can look less defined because of skin laxity, sagging, excess fat, or a combination of all three, and each requires a different approach.”
When it comes to aesthetic treatments, the language can be confusing. Tightening, lifting, and contouring are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing, and choosing between them isn’t simply a matter of preference. Each treatment works on a different structure, using a different approach to address a specific concern and achieve a particular result.
