Steady in Faith & Full of Gratitude: An Update on Leané 🌸✨

Hi friends and family,
Sorry for being a little quiet on our end! We wanted to check in and give you all an update on how our sweet girl is doing now that she’s been out of the hospital for a little while. 🤍

A Little Bump in the Road & General Progress:
Leané had to pop back into the hospital yesterday to receive a dose of Polygam (an immune booster), as she has been struggling a bit with the flu. Her body is still rebuilding its defenses, so an extra boost was just what she needed.

Other than battling this flu bug, Leané has been doing so remarkably well! Her spirits remain high, and she continues to blow us away with how positive, strong, and brave she is every single day. She meets every challenge with that bright, beautiful smile we all love so much. ❤️💪🏻

Staying Protected in Isolation:
For now, Melissa and Leané are continuing to stay isolated in their Pretoria flat. It is so essential to keep her in a safe, controlled environment away from outside germs and illnesses while her brand-new immune system steadily grows stronger day by day. 🏡🛡️

The Power of Your Support:
We are so incredibly grateful for every single prayer, every message, every kind thought, and every ounce of love sent Leané’s way. Your support has carried us through some of the heaviest days, and we truly, deeply believe in the power of prayer. 🙏❤️

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever."
— Psalm 107:1 📖🌸

⭐️ A Prayer of Gratitude for Leané:

Dear Lord, thank You for carrying Leané through every single step of this journey.
Thank You for the supernatural strength You have given her, for the healing she has received, and for the hope and vibrant positivity that continues to shine right through her.

Thank You for surrounding her with such an immense circle of love, and for every person who has prayed for her, supported her, and held our family in their hearts.

Please continue to wrap Your protective arms around Leané. Keep her safe from serious infections, soothe her flu symptoms, and grant her body the deep strength and energy it needs to heal and recover fully.
Lord, bless everyone who has stood beside our family with their love and prayers. May You return their kindness and generosity a hundredfold.

We place Leané safely into Your loving hands and trust You to guide her steps today, tomorrow, and always.
In Jesus' name, Amen. 🙏❤️✨

Thank you all from the very bottom of our hearts for walking this road with us. Please continue to keep our beautiful Leané lifted in your prayers! 🌸❤️🕊️

To the Heroes in Scrubs, Classrooms & Caring Hands: A Heartfelt Thank You 🩺🤍🌸

Hello friends and family,
As we settle into this beautiful new chapter with Leané finally out of isolation and resting at home in Pretoria, our hearts keep turning back to the extraordinary people and organizations who helped us get to this exact moment.

We want to send our deepest, most profound thank you to Steve Biko Academic Hospital and the incredible team in the Paediatric Oncology Ward.

To Leané’s medical team—Dr Nkabi, Dr Büchner, Prof Reynders, Prof Omar, and all of the wonderful, dedicated nurses—you didn't just fight for her life with your medical expertise, late-night checks, and careful monitoring. You fought for her smile. You fought for her spirit.

During her toughest, most painful days in isolation, when her little body was so fragile and the road felt impossibly long, you went above and beyond to make sure she was not just comfortable, but genuinely happy.

A massive, heartfelt thank you also goes out to the incredible support team who took care of every part of Leané’s well-being:

Judy Schoeman (Dietician): For taking such good care of her nutrition and helping keep her body nourished.

Anél (Psychologist): For guiding her heart, mind, and emotions through the scariest days.

Our wonderful Physiotherapists: For helping her stay mobile, building back her strength, and walking her through physical recovery.

Teacher Hannah and Teacher Busi: For bringing light, learning, normalcy, and warmth into the hospital environment when she needed it most.

And to the incredible organizations and foundations who wrapped their arms around our family, bringing magic, joy, comfort, and vital support when we needed it most:
🔸Rainbows and Smiles
🔸Reach for a Dream Foundation
🔸Devon Vergne Foundation
🔸Hamba Nawe Project
🔸Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer.

You saw past the monitors, the IVs, and the medicine, and you saw our vibrant, brave 13-year-old girl. You brought warmth into a small, quiet hospital space, celebrated her victories, and helped keep her beautiful, courageous personality shining bright.

Thank you for answering our endless questions with patience, holding our hands on the scary days, and treating our daughter with the kind of fierce love and compassion you would give your own family. You are the hands and feet of God’s healing, and we will never, ever forget the light you brought into our darkest season.

May God richly bless each and every one of you, your careers, your organizations, and your own families for the selfless work you do every single day! 🌸✨

"God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them."
— Hebrews 6:10 🙏🏻❤️

HE IS FAITHFUL: Leané is OUT of Isolation & HOME in Pretoria! 🌸🏡😭🎉

Hello friends and family,
With hearts overflowing with absolute gratitude and joy, we are so excited to share the news we have been praying for: Leané is officially OUT of isolation and is now HOME in Pretoria! ❤️🙏🏻✨

What an incredible, breathtaking milestone this is! Looking back on this entire journey—from the grueling chemo days to maximum isolation and the bone marrow transplant—we are in complete awe of God's faithfulness, grace, and mercy every single step of the way. There were so many moments where all we could do was cry, pray, trust, and hold onto hope—and God truly carried our precious girl through it all.
We praise our Almighty God for His healing hand, His divine protection, and for every single person who has prayed, sent messages of encouragement, and supported Leané and our family. Your love and kindness have meant more to us than words can ever express. 🕊️🙌

The Next Steps in Pretoria:

Although this is a huge, joyful step forward, her recovery journey is still ongoing:

Next 3 Months: Leané will need to remain close to the hospital in Pretoria for the next three months.

Protecting Her New System: She will continue to have limited contact with groups and crowds to protect her fragile, recovering immune system from any risk of infection.

Twice-Weekly Check-ups: She will have hospital visits and blood tests twice a week so the doctors can closely monitor her progress until they are completely satisfied with her recovery. 🩺💪🏻

Please continue to keep Leané wrapped in your prayers as she grows stronger each day, adjusts to life outside the isolation room, and continues her steady recovery.

Praise our Almighty God! All glory, honor, and thanks belong to Him alone! 🙏🏻❤️✨

"Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits."
— Psalm 103:1-2 📖🌸

Leané’s Bone Marrow Transplant Journey Day 31🩺✨

We are so grateful to share that we had a peaceful and good weekend. Leané was completely pain-free, and we truly do not take that blessing for granted. 🙏🏻

A few beautiful milestones from the past few days:

💧 Off IV Fluids: She is officially off her IVs, giving her a little more freedom and comfort to move around! Her main focus now is slowly increasing her eating and drinking to keep her kidneys strong as her body continues to heal. 💪🏻

📈 Improving Counts: Her blood counts remain encouraging, and her engraftment results continue to improve, bringing us so much hope. The doctors have also begun carefully step-down tapering some of her medications to monitor how her body maintains stable counts on lower doses. 💊🤗

A Heartfelt Thank You 🌷🩷

To every single person who continues to pray, send messages of love, and carry our family in your thoughts—thank you. Your kindness and unwavering support have held us up through some of our most difficult days.

A special thank you as well to everyone who has contributed through donations. 🤍 Your generosity has lightened our burden in ways words cannot fully express. Every single gift, no matter the size, makes a real and meaningful difference, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

Please continue to keep Leané in your prayers as we trust God for complete healing and a smooth, steady recovery. ✨

CANCER-FREE & ENGRAFTED: Leané's Bone Marrow Transplant Journey – Day 24 🌸🎉😭❤️

Our hearts are overflowing with absolute gratitude today as we share the most wonderful, breathtaking news. God is so, so good! 🙏🏻✨

Leané's new bone marrow is officially working and producing healthy cells, and there are NO cancer cells! Our brave girl is currently CANCER-FREE! 💪🏻🥰🎉

This is the massive milestone we have been praying, crying, and believing for.

Understanding the Next Steps:

At this stage, her brand-new immune system and her body are still learning to work together, adapt, and find the right balance. Her doctors explained that this process is likely why she has been experiencing the stomach cramps, skin rash, and fluctuations in her blood counts over the past few days.

Her specialized medical team is keeping a very close eye on her every single hour, fine-tuning and adjusting her medications as needed to help her body and her new donor cells build a strong, peaceful partnership. 🩺❤️

While we know there is still a long recovery road ahead in isolation, today we are pausing to celebrate this victory with everything in us and thank God for His incredible faithfulness. We are holding tightly to this precious truth: the new bone marrow is working, her cells are healthy, and she is cancer-free. 🕊️🙌

Special Thanks & Shoutouts 🌟✨

🍪 A Sweet Thank You to GingerSquared!

A massive, heartfelt thank you to for spoiling our girl with the most exquisite, custom royal icing cookies! They brought such a huge smile to her face and added so much sweetness to this special milestone day. Your kindness means the world to us! 👑💕

🎶 To Leané's Favorite Band: Stray Kids!

A huge shoutout to ! Through every heavy day of chemo, painful procedures, and long hours in isolation, your music, energy, and presence on her hospital walls have been a constant source of joy, keeping her spirits high and giving her the strength to keep fighting like a warrior. 🎧🔥✨

How You Can Walk With Us Today:

Keep Praying: Please continue to pray that her body and new immune system continue to adapt smoothly without complications, and that her strength is renewed daily.

Support Her Recovery: As her recovery journey continues in isolation, your ongoing support remains a massive blessing. If you are able to donate or share her story, please visit her BackaBuddy campaign here: 👇

Leané’s Transplant Journey – Day +21 🌸🤍

Hello friends and family,

Today marks exactly three weeks since Leané received her life-saving bone marrow transplant. Day +21—three weeks down, taking it one day at a time, one prayer at a time, and moving one step closer to home. 🌸🙏🏻

The past 21 days have been a true journey of faith filled with both beautiful milestones and heavy, difficult moments. We have celebrated every small victory, held onto hope through every setback, and continued to trust God every single step of the way.

The Reality of the Journey: A Difficult Night

Yesterday was a wonderful, peaceful day for Leané, and we were so incredibly thankful for that blessing. Unfortunately, during the night, things became very difficult again as she developed severe stomach cramps and abdominal pain. Her stomach and digestive system have been through an immense amount of strain because of the intensive treatment needed to prepare her body for the transplant, and recovery can often bring these painful, uncomfortable waves.

Along with the cramps, she has been struggling with nausea and vomiting today. The sheer intensity of the stomach pain has also caused quite a bit of tension and discomfort in her back, leaving our girl feeling completely exhausted and sore. Earlier this week, she also battled with severe constipation before finally passing stool, which has likely added to the current discomfort and sensitivity in her abdomen. 🩹😔

What the Medical Team is Watching:

Following a bone marrow transplant, symptoms like these are monitored with absolute precision. There are several possible causes the doctors look out for, including simple irritation and inflammation of the digestive tract from the chemo, medication side effects, minor infections, or complications like Graft-Versus-Host Disease (GVHD), where the new donor immune cells begin to react against the body. Her specialized medical team is keeping a very close eye on her every hour and will continue investigating to make sure she gets exactly what she needs to find relief.

Our Hope Remains Steadfast ✨

This journey continues to remind us that healing is rarely a straight path. One day brings a burst of encouragement, while the next brings a steep new challenge. Yet, through it all, our hope remains entirely unshaken. We serve a big God, and we know who holds her future. 🕊️🙌

Leané, you have already come so incredibly far, our beautiful girl. Your fierce courage continues to inspire everyone around you. Keep fighting—we are all right beside you every single step of the way! 🌸💪🏻

How You Can Lift Leané Up Today:

Pray for Relief: Please pray specifically for her stomach cramps, nausea, and back tension to ease up completely so she can get some peaceful rest.

Pray for Protection: Pray against any complications or infections, and that her new bone marrow continues to settle, grow stronger, and do exactly what God designed it to do.

Support Her Fight: As the medical journey continues in isolation, your financial support helps ease the heavy burden. If you are able to donate or share her story, please visit her BackaBuddy campaign here: 👇
🔗 https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/help-lean-haar-stryd-teen-leukemia-wen

Thank you to every single person across the world who continues to pray for Leané and support our family. Your love, your messages, and your tireless prayers carry Melissa, Riaan, and all of us through more than you will ever know. We are deeply, deeply grateful. 🤍

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me."

Leané’s Bone Marrow Transplant Journey – Day 18 🧡🎗️

Hello friends and family,

Today marks Day 18 of Leané's transplant journey. We are seeing some very encouraging progress, along with a few new hurdles that we are facing hand-in-hand with our doctors and our faith.

Steps Forward in Healing:

We have some wonderful victories to celebrate! Leané’s mouth and throat have improved significantly, and she is finally able to eat and drink comfortably again. Although her taste buds remain extremely sensitive and food still tastes a bit unpleasant to her, she is incredibly determined and is gradually trying to increase her food and fluid intake.

Even better, her blood counts continue to recover well and are showing steady, beautiful improvement! 💪🏻✨
She has also successfully completed her course of antibiotics and no longer requires morphine for pain management. Currently, she is only receiving IV fluids. Once she is able to maintain adequate nutrition and hydration on her own, the IV fluids will be discontinued, and she will finally be completely free from the drip!

A Special Window Visit! 🪟👋

We had the most wonderful surprise today! Even though she is in strict isolation, Leané got a very special visit through the hospital window from family and her dad, Riaan. Seeing their faces and waving to them was exactly what she needed to lift her spirits and bring a massive smile to her face! There is nothing like the love of family to keep her fighting spirit strong.

New Challenges & The Plan:

Since late yesterday afternoon, Leané has developed a mild rash and has been experiencing increased nausea and abdominal discomfort. Her medical team believes the rash is likely related to inflammation or a reaction to one of her medications.

To help ease these symptoms, she began a short course of steroid treatment today. These steroids are expected to reduce the inflammation, relieve her nausea, soothe her tummy, and treat any underlying allergic reaction. 🩹🙏

A Major Milestone This Weekend:

This coming weekend marks an incredibly significant milestone in Leané’s journey. We are expecting the results of her bone marrow tests, which will officially confirm whether her donor bone marrow has successfully engrafted and if her new cells are functioning exactly as they should.

We are standing on the promises of God, and we would be deeply, deeply grateful if you would join us in praying specifically for these results. 🕊️🙌

How You Can Walk With Us Today:

Pray for Engraftment Results: Please pray for perfect test results this weekend, confirming successful engraftment.

Pray for Relief: Pray that the steroid treatment quickly calms her rash, nausea, and tummy pain.

Support Her Journey: As we navigate this critical phase in isolation, your financial support remains a lifeline. If you are able to donate or share her campaign, please visit her BackaBuddy page here: 👇
🔗 https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/help-lean-haar-stryd-teen-leukemia-wen

Thank you for every single prayer, every beautiful message of encouragement, and every donation. Your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support continue to carry Melissa, Riaan, and our entire family through this storm. We are sincerely grateful for each and every one of you. My God bless you all abundantly. 🥰❤️

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

Leané’s Bone Marrow Transplant Journey – Day 13 🌸🎗️

Hello friends and family,

Today marks Day 13 since Leané's bone marrow transplant. We are taking this journey one quiet step at a time, holding fast to our faith and watching our sweet girl fight with everything she has.

The Reality of the Waiting Phase:

As the medical team expected at this critical stage, Leané's blood counts currently remain very low. The doctors have reassured us that this is completely normal and a standard part of the process while we wait for the transplanted bone marrow to engraft and begin its miraculous work of producing healthy new blood cells.

Small Victories & Comfort Measures:

We are so thankful to share a small but encouraging step forward today: her mouth started feeling a little better yesterday! Her throat, however, remains very sore, which makes swallowing incredibly difficult for her. To keep her comfortable, she is still receiving morphine to manage the pain. Additionally, she has started a course of antibiotics to protect her fragile system from any infections during this highly vulnerable window. 🩹🙏

Our Resilient Girl:

Despite the exhaustion and pain she is facing, Leané continues to do her absolute best to swallow small amounts of food and drink. Her little body is working incredibly hard behind the scenes to heal. She is spending much of her time resting and sleeping right now, soaking up the strength she needs for the days ahead. 🕊️✨

We continue to trust in God’s perfect timing and are so grateful for the specialized care guarding her every hour.

How You Can Lift Up Leané Today:

Pray for Engraftment:

Please pray that her new bone marrow successfully settles in and begins generating healthy cells.

Pray for Comfort and Protection:

Pray for complete protection from infections, rapid healing for her throat, and peace for her heart as she rests in isolation.

Support Her Journey:

The medical road to recovery is long and intensive. If you are able to support or share her fund, please visit her BackaBuddy campaign here: 👇
🔗 https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/help-lean-haar-stryd-teen-leukemia-wen

Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for every single prayer, message, and act of kindness. Your love, support, and encouragement continue to be the anchor carrying our family through this storm. We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you in Leané's village. ❤️

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
