Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

What are Urinary Tract Infections?

If you're a woman, your chance of getting a urinary tract infection, or UTI, is high; some experts rank your lifetime risk of getting one as high as 1 in 2 -- with many women having repeat infections, sometimes for years on end. Here's how to handle UTIs, whether you're experiencing your first or fifth infection, and how to make it less likely you'll get one in the first place.

What Causes UTIs in Women?

UTIs are a key reason we're often told to wipe from front to back after using the bathroom. That's because the urethra -- the tube that transports urine from the bladder to the outside of the body -- is located close to the a**s. Bacteria from the large intestine, such as E. coli, are in the perfect position to escape the a**s and invade the urethra. From there, they can travel up to the bladder, and if the infection isn't treated, continue on to infect the kidneys. Women may be especially prone to UTIs because they have shorter urethras, which allow bacteria quick access to the bladder. Having s*x can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract, too.

Symptoms of UTIs

To identify a UTI, keep an eyeout for the following symptoms:
•A burning feeling when you urinate
•A frequent or intense urge to urinate, even though little comes out when you do
•Pain or pressure in your back or lower abdomen
•Cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling urine
•Feeling tired or shaky
•Fever or chills (a sign the infection may have reached your kidneys)

Tests and Treatments for UTIs

If you suspect you have a urinary tract infection, head to the doctor.

FIBROID Symptoms Most People Overlook....Do So At Your Own Risk!
===================================================

Many women who have fibroids don't have any symptoms.

In those that do, symptoms can be influenced by the location, size and number of fibroids.

In women who have symptoms, the most common symptoms of uterine fibroids include:

Heavy menstrual bleeding
Menstrual periods lasting more than a week
Pelvic pressure or pain
Frequent urination
Difficulty emptying the bladder
Constipation
Backache or leg pains

Rarely, a fibroid can cause acute pain when it outgrows its blood supply, and begins to die.

Fibroids are generally classified by their location.

Intramural fibroids grow within the muscular uterine wall.

Submucosal fibroids bulge into the uterine cavity.

Subserosal fibroids project to the outside of the uterus We handle all gynaecology problems like uterine fibroids, menstrual disorders, pelvic floor prolapse, pelvic pain, cervical cancer and unhealthy va**nal conditions.v 👍 👍stones👍 👍 # Are you suffering with ulcers, constipation, 👍Angina pectoris👍 disease failure👍 # 👍 cancer👍 cancer👍 👍 👍 ej*******on 👍 Endometriosis 👍toothache 👍 p.i.d👍 Erectile dysfunction

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection affecting any part of the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra).

UTIs ARE CLASSIFIED BY LOCATION:
* Urethritis: Infection of the urethra.
* Cystitis: Bladder infection, often spreading from the urethra.
* Pyelonephritis: Kidney infection, the most serious type, potentially leading to permanent damage or sepsis.

SYMPTOMS:
Common signs include
* Burning sensation during urination (dysuria),
* A strong, frequent, and persistent urge to urinate (even if little passes),
* Limited flow of urine
* Cloudy, dark, or bloody urine
* Lower abdominal (pelvic) pain
* Kidney infection symptoms are more severe, including fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and pain in the upper back or side (flank pain). Older adults may exhibit confusion or lethargy.

CAUSES:
Most UTIs are caused by bacteria, most commonly Escherichia coli (E. coli), which typically live in the large intestine.

These bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply.

Understanding Prostate Enlargement
What Is Prostate Enlargement?

Prostate enlargement, medically known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), is a non-cancerous increase in the size of the prostate gland. It commonly affects men as they age and can interfere with normal urinary function.

Signs and Symptoms

- Common symptoms include:
- Frequent urination, especially at night (nocturia)
- Difficulty starting urination
- Weak or interrupted urine stream
- Feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
- Urgency to urinate
- Dribbling at the end of urination
- Straining during urination

Causes

Prostate enlargement is mainly caused by:
- Age-related hormonal changes, particularly increased dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
- Imbalance between testosterone and estrogen levels
- Family history of prostate conditions
- Lifestyle factors such as physical inactivity and obesity
- Possible Complications

If left untreated, BPH may lead to:
Acute urinary retention

- Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Bladder stones
- Bladder damage
- Kidney damage in severe cases
- Preventive Measures

While prostate enlargement cannot always be prevented, the following measures may reduce risk and progression:

- Regular medical check-ups and prostate screening
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Engaging in regular physical activity
- Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
- Reducing intake of alcohol and caffeine
- Avoiding smoking
- Managing stress
- Drinking fluids in moderation, especially in the evening
Conclusion

Early recognition of symptoms and timely medical evaluation are essential for effective management of prostate enlargement. Men above 40 years are encouraged to seek regular prostate health assessments.
