Can you tell the name of this clinical finding?

A. Cyclodialysis

Cyclodialysis is a separation of the ciliary muscle from the scleral spur, creating an abnormal cleft between the ciliary body and sclera. It is usually caused by blunt ocular trauma and can lead to hypotony due to increased aqueous outflow through the cyclodialysis cleft.

B. Angle recession

Angle recession is a tear between the longitudinal and circular muscle fibres of the ciliary muscle, causing widening of the anterior chamber angle. It is commonly associated with blunt ocular trauma and is an important risk factor for angle-recession glaucoma, which may develop months or even years after the injury.

C. Iridodialysis
Iridodialysis is a separation of the peripheral iris from its attachment to the ciliary body. It is most commonly caused by trauma and appears as a peripheral gap or defect in the iris. Depending on its size, it may cause glare, photophobia, monocular diplopia, or cosmetic concerns.

Today was one of those moments in medicine that reminded me that behind every procedure is a human being, a story, and a life.

Performing an evisceration is not just about the instruments, the technique, or following surgical steps. It can be emotionally heavy knowing that you are removing the contents of someone's eye because the eye can no longer be saved.

You remain focused because the patient needs you to be strong, but deep inside, you feel the weight of what you're doing. It teaches you that medicine isn't only about saving organs—it is also about relieving suffering, preserving dignity, and helping someone move forward when there is no other option.

Some procedures test your hands. Others test your heart. Today tested both.

Medicine is a privilege, but sometimes, it is also deeply emotional. ❤️‍🩹👁️

A special thank you to the Mansa General Hospital Eye Department for giving me this opportunity—not only to improve and strengthen my surgical skills, but also to grow emotionally and understand the human side of being a healthcare professional. Every experience, every patient, and every procedure continues to teach me something that goes beyond what can be learned from a textbook.

Grateful for the opportunity, the lessons, and the growth. 🙏🏽❤️‍🩹

Why Ophthalmology?

“If Medicine saves life, Ophthalmology helps people see that life.”

Sight is more than vision—it is independence, education, work, connection, and quality of life. From preventing blindness to restoring sight, Ophthalmology ensures that patients don’t just live, but experience the world around them.

1 Restoration of Vision
Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat conditions that threaten sight, helping patients see clearly and preserve their vision.

2 Prevention of Blindness
Through early detection, treatment, and regular eye examinations, Ophthalmology plays a vital role in preventing avoidable blindness.

3 Surgical Expertise
From cataract surgery to retinal and glaucoma procedures, ophthalmic surgery can restore or preserve one of our most precious senses.

4 Management of Eye Diseases
They manage conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, corneal disorders, uveitis, and retinal diseases.

5 Improving Independence
Good vision allows people to read, work, move safely, learn, and perform everyday activities independently.

6 Protecting Vision for Life
Ophthalmology is not only about treating disease—it is about monitoring, protecting, and maintaining vision throughout life.

7 A Lifetime Impact
Helping someone regain or preserve their sight can change how they learn, work, interact with others, and experience the world.

Ophthalmology is vision, precision, prevention, and restoration in action.

It doesn’t just help people see—it helps people see their future.

If you want to help people see again, preserve their sight, and experience life more fully—Ophthalmology is your path.
