CONGRATULATIONS, MR PRESIDENT
His Excellency Mr Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia — “Bally”
On behalf of the Clinical Officers’ Association of Zambia (COAZ), I wish to extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema on your victory.
This victory represents a renewed mandate and an opportunity to continue transforming Zambia and improving the lives of our people. As health workers and key partners in the delivery of healthcare, we look forward to seeing the commitments made to the Zambian people translated into tangible results, particularly in the health sector.
We look forward to:
1. Employment of more health workers
Addressing the shortage of health personnel through increased recruitment and equitable deployment of Clinical Officers, nurses, doctors, midwives and other health professionals.
2. Upgrading and modernisation of hospitals
Continued infrastructure development and upgrading of hospitals and health facilities, including district hospitals, health centres and rural facilities.
3. Strengthening Primary Health Care
Greater investment in primary healthcare, prevention, early diagnosis and community-based services so that Zambians can access quality healthcare closer to where they live.
4. Improved availability of medicines and medical supplies
Strengthening the supply chain to ensure that health facilities consistently have essential medicines, laboratory supplies, equipment and other medical commodities.
5. Improved working conditions for health workers
Creating a conducive working environment, addressing staff welfare and ensuring that health workers are adequately supported to deliver quality services.
6. Career progression and professional development
Providing opportunities for further education, specialist training, promotion and career advancement for health workers, including Clinical Officers.
7. Expansion of specialist healthcare services
Supporting the training and deployment of more specialists and strengthening specialist services at provincial and district levels.
8. Strengthening emergency and referral services
Improving ambulance services, referral systems, emergency care and communication between different levels of the health system.
9. Investment in health infrastructure and technology
Embracing digital health, telemedicine, modern diagnostic technologies and improved health information systems.
10. Youth employment and entrepreneurship in healthcare
Creating opportunities for young health professionals to contribute to the health system through employment, innovation, private practice and health entrepreneurship.
11. Strengthening the role of Clinical Officers
Recognising and utilising Clinical Officers effectively in addressing Zambia’s shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
12. Quality and affordable healthcare for every Zambian
Ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location or economic status, has access to safe, affordable and quality healthcare.
As the Clinical Officers’ Association of Zambia, we remain ready to work constructively with Government and all stakeholders in advancing the health agenda of our country.
We believe that a strong health workforce is the foundation of a strong health system, and that investing in health workers is investing in Zambia’s future.
Once again, congratulations, Mr President, on this important victory. We wish you wisdom, strength and success as you continue to serve the people of Zambia.
