This month, we shine a light on our very own Kathy Walu, who joined The Mindful Drop (TMD) in February this year as a Program Coordinator.

Kathy has since actively supported our programs, from planning to implementation, including supporting our mental health advocacy efforts. She has also lead our quarterly webinars, both as speaker and moderator, including facilitating Mental-Up classes during our physical outreaches and SMHAP.

Kathyโ€™s passion for mental health extends beyond her role at TMD as she leads various mental health initiatives while serving in other capacities. More significantly, Kathy founded and served as first chairperson for the NIPA Mental Health Association, driving her passion for youth mental health.

At TMD, we value the contribution that Kathy brings, not just in her role but the entire organization.

โ€œAs men, we are often taught to be strong and to keep our struggles to ourselves. However, true strength is not found in silence but in having the courage to speak, seek support, and encourage others.

One thing I have come to appreciate is that no man should walk through lifeโ€™s challenges alone. It is okay to express your thoughts, share your experiences, and ask for help when needed. Speaking up does not make us weak; it reminds us that we are human.

To every man reading this, your voice matters, your feelings matter, and your wellbeing matters. May we continue to create spaces where men are free to speak, heal, grow, and support one another.โ€

Mental health education is a necessity for adolescents and young people ๐Ÿ’š

By equipping young learners with knowledge and skills to understand their mental wellbeing, we help them better prepare to navigate life challenges, build healthier relationships and reach their full potential.

This June, we join the global community in recognizing Men's Mental Health Awareness Month; a time to encourage open conversations, challenge stigma, and promote mental well-being among men and boys.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Yet many men continue to suffer in silence due to societal expectations, fear of judgment, or lack of support. This month, we remind every man that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

To the men learning to speak, to heal, and to seek support: your feelings are valid, your voice matters, and you do not have to face life's challenges alone.

Let's create safe spaces where men can express themselves, access support, and prioritize their mental well-being.

๐Ÿ’š Check in on a friend. Start a conversation. Seek support. Save a life.

This month, we shine a spotlight on three incredible volunteers at The Mindful Drop (TMD), Wandai Simango, Peter ฤuncan Kalulu and Tanaka Nicole Rukondo.

Since joining the organization in January this year, the trio have successfully led the student mental health ambassador program (SMHAP) cohort 2, from program planning to implementation.

Through their role as Program Leads, the trio have provided exceptional leadership to the ambassadors, while coordinating all program activities, including the most recent SMHAP graduation.

Their passion for youth mental health and overall well-being extends from their current role to supporting other health initiatives within their schools.

Currently, Tanaka & Wandai are medical students at the University of Lusaka (UNILUS) while Peter is an environmental health final year student at the University of Zambia (UNZA) where he also serves for his school association.

At TMD, we are most honored to have the trio and confident of the valuable contribution they bring, not just to our programs but the organization at large .
