Where Will I Urinate From?”
This is the question that always crosses my mind when I’m on public transport.
I remember one day traveling a 2-hour distance. I politely asked the transport officer if the bus could make a quick stop so I could urinate. To my shock, he responded with:
“You were drinking alcohol early in the morning and now you want us to stop for you?”
😳 I was stunned. He had no idea I live with sickle cell, and that frequent urination isn’t a joke for me, it’s part of my reality.
I didn’t argue. I just looked at him and said:
“If you don’t stop this bus, I’ll p*e from the window.”
And honestly… I meant it. I was ready. 💯
From that day, I’ve done everything I can to use private transport whenever possible.
Living with sickle cell comes with so many unseen battles, even something as simple as needing to urinate can turn into humiliation.
This story is real. I went through it.
So the next time someone asks to stop or step out, have compassion. You never know what they’re carrying inside.
