St. Luke's Mission Zonal Rural Health Centre, with support from the Mambwe District Health Office (DHO) and the Family Health and Nutrition (FHN) team, successfully hosted a five-day E-MOTIVE training from 13th to 17th July 2026. The training brought together Clinical Officers (COGs), nurses, and midwives from eight health facilities within the district to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and management of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), one of the leading causes of maternal mortality.
The training was facilitated with technical support from the District Health Office and the Family Health and Nutrition (FHN) team, who delivered both theoretical and practical sessions on the E-MOTIVE approach.

On the 17th July 2026, With technical and logistical support from the District Health Office (DHO) and FHN, a Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Committee was successfully formed to strengthen community participation in preventing maternal and newborn deaths. The committee was established to promote timely identification, reporting, review, and response to maternal and perinatal deaths, while fostering accountability and continuous quality improvement in maternal and newborn health services.
The formation process brought together a broad range of community stakeholders, including traditional leaders (headmen), Safe Motherhood Action Groups (SMAGs), Growth Monitoring Promoters (GMPs), Health Centre Committee (HCC) members, church leaders, traditional healers, and health facility staff. Their participation ensured that the committee reflected the diverse perspectives and needs of the community while promoting shared responsibility for improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.

Yesterday, on the 30th April, 2026 our facility had the privilege of hosting a team from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), who visited to provide Technical Supportive Supervision (TSS) on malaria in pregnancy.
The visit focused on strengthening the quality of care offered to expectant mothers, particularly in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of malaria during pregnancy. The PHO team worked closely with our staff, offering guidance, sharing best practices, and identifying areas for improvement to enhance service delivery.

We are proud to introduce Mirriam Sakala, a committed Polyvalent Community-Based Volunteer (CBV) who has been trained in Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) and Safe Motherhood Action Group (SMAG) activities. She is also an active member of the Anglican St. Veronica Women’s Guide, where she continues to serve her community with compassion and faith.

In the middle of the picture is Barthlomew Nyendwa, our Environmental Health Technologist, who plays a vital role in conducting public health activities, including disease prevention, environmental sanitation, health education, and promoting safe and healthy practices within the community.
On the left is Chechiwe Ndhlovu, our Psychosocial Counsellor, who provides essential emotional and mental health support to our clients and community members.
On the right is Mervis Tembo, a Community-Based Volunteer under CHAZ, who works closely with the community to promote health awareness and support outreach activities. We appreciate their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community.

It was truly a blessing to be entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring and guiding these future healthcare professionals.
