💥PHYSIOLOGY OF LACTATION
The physiology of lactation occurs in 4 stages ✍
1🗨Mammogenesis (Breast Preparation)
🕳During Pregnancy High levels of estrogen, progesterone, and human placental lactogen stimulate the growth and branching of the mammary ducts and lobulo-alveolar system.
🕳 Although milk proteins and lactose begin to be synthesized, high pregnancy hormone levels inhibit copious milk secretion.

2🗨 Lactogenesis (Milk Secretion)
🕳This begins in the later months of pregnancy. The glandular tissues produce small amounts of colostrum—a thick, protein-rich fluid.
🕳 Following the delivery of the placenta, estrogen and progesterone levels drop sharply, removing the inhibition on milk production. Prolactin (from the anterior pituitary) takes over, initiating the copious secretion of transitional milk.

3🗨Galactokinesis (Milk Ejection)
🕳When an infant suckles, sensory receptors in the ni**le and ar**la send signals to the hypothalamus.
🕳The hypothalamus triggers the posterior pituitary gland to release oxytocin into the bloodstream.
🕳 Oxytocin causes the myoepithelial cells surrounding the milk-producing alveoli to contract, actively squeezing milk down the ducts and out of the ni**le. This reflex can also be triggered by a baby crying or the emotional anticipation of feeding.

4.🗨Galactopoiesis (Maintenance of Supply)
🕳This stage requires regular removal of milk. Each time the baby suckles, prolactin is released to stimulate the alveolar cells to synthesize milk for the next feeding.
