Lenacapivir
Lenacapivir is a long-acting antiviral medicine being developed for the prevention of HIV infection. It works by targeting the HIV capsid, a structure that helps the virus survive and multiply. By blocking this process, lenacapivir can prevent HIV from establishing an infection in the body.
A major benefit of lenacapivir is that it can provide protection for a longer period compared to daily HIV prevention pills. This may help improve adherence and offer a more convenient option for people who need HIV prevention.
Lenacapivir is an important advancement in HIV prevention because it provides another choice alongside existing methods such as condoms and oral PrEP. However, it should be used as prescribed by healthcare providers and does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections.

In many of our communities, it is common seeing young children walking alone to the clinic, sometimes even carrying younger siblings on their backs. While this may seem like a sign of independence or responsibility, it can put the child at serious risk and limit the quality of care they receive.

A health facility is not just a place to collect medicine, it is a place where important decisions are made about a person’s health. When a child comes alone, they may not be able to clearly explain their symptoms, medical history, or how the illness started. This can make it difficult for healthcare workers to give the correct diagnosis and treatment. In some cases, certain medications or procedures require consent or guidance from a parent or guardian, which a child cannot provide.

Sending a child alone also puts them at risk of misunderstanding instructions. They may forget how to take the medicine, the correct dosage, or when to return for review. This can lead to improper use of drugs, worsening of illness, or even dangerous complications.

Parents and guardians play a vital role in a child’s health. By escorting children to the clinic, they ensure that accurate information is given, proper decisions are made, and instructions are well understood. It also gives caregivers a chance to ask questions and learn how best to support the child’s recovery at home.

As a community, we must take responsibility for the safety and well-being of our children. Let us avoid sending young children alone to health facilities. Every child deserves proper care, guidance, and protection and that begins with the presence of a responsible adult.
