In her call to action, our Director emphasized that:
“A budget is a law, and Section 141 of the Constitution mandates Parliament to consult the public in budget processes. As persons with disabilities and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, we must become hard to ignore in these conversations by showing up in our numbers and engaging at every stage of the budgeting process. An requires commitment from everyone.”
Her remarks highlighted the importance of meaningful participation by persons with disabilities in public finance processes — from consultations and planning to implementation and accountability. Inclusive budgeting is not only about allocation of resources, but about ensuring that national development reflects the needs and realities of all citizens.
Representing National Association of Societies for the Care of the Handicapped (NASCOH) during the ongoing National Disability Symposium, our Director joined stakeholders including the United Nations Development Programme, Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, Epilepsy Support Foundation, and Deaf Women Included in advancing conversations on disability-inclusive budgeting and sustainable financing for disability inclusion.

to Star FM for the opportunity to join Siphathisiwe Mpofu on the Disability Factor as we reflected on the public consultations held by the Harare City Council . Our director Samantha Sibanda emphasized that for the implementation of City Disability to succeed, three things are critical:
1️⃣ Political will and inclusive budgeting. Targeted spending on disability is an investment that will in turn improve the GDP of the city .
2️⃣ Continuous monitoring and community participation to track progress. A monitoring and evaluation mechanism should be put in place.
3️⃣ Changing attitudes of the staff at the City Council and the community at large through awareness and education

We also commend the media for reporting these cases, which helps raise public awareness and reinforces accountability.

As we continue this momentum, let us remember that connectivity without safety is incomplete.

“This video is making rounds on social media, and has been met with mixed feelings, but the question remains, "What is the reality?" Let’s talk

What is Black Tax?

Black Tax refers to the financial obligation that working adults often have to support their parents, siblings, and extended family. It goes beyond generosity or occasional gifts, it’s an expected, culturally reinforced responsibility that affects income, savings, and long-term wealth accumulation.

Black Tax is real, and backed by various researches that show how young people have to divert their income to family obligations. This has been normalized and if one doesn't provide, they are labeled as inconsiderate, selfish etc.

💡 How then do we balance cultural expectations, Ubuntu, and personal financial freedom?

Let’s talk about it. Share your experiences.
