After one and a half days of powerful engagement, reflection and collective action, we have successfully concluded the National Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 Stakeholder Dialogue on Priority Interventions for the Triple Elimination of Unwanted Pregnancies, HIV and STIs among Adolescent Girls and Young People.

The process brought together young people’s representatives from all provinces of Zimbabwe and across our diverse sectors, ensuring that the voices, lived experiences and priorities of adolescents and young people were meaningfully represented.

Together, we unpacked the key issues affecting adolescent girls and young women, discussed barriers to access, mapped priority interventions, and strengthened our shared position on what must be prioritised for young people in the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 process.

Our message is clear: young people must not only be consulted — we must shape, influence and lead the decisions that affect our health, rights and futures.

As we now move into the writing process, we are confident that the voices and inputs of young people will be meaningfully considered and reflected in this GC8 cycle. YPNHW remains committed to ensuring that youth priorities are not only heard, but translated into bold, practical and well-resourced interventions for adolescent girls and young women across Zimbabwe.

We extend our appreciation to UNAIDS and National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe for the support, and to all provincial and sector representatives who contributed with boldness, honesty and commitment.

Under our outcome area on upscaling Faith-Based Organisation engagement beyond mainline and Pentecostal churches, on 16 May 2026, Young Peoples Network on Health and Wellbeing Masvingo Province, led by Panashe Mhingwa, held a youth engagement and awareness quiz competition in Bota Area, Ward 28 (Zaka District) in partnership with Faith-Based Organisations, working with White Garment Churches (Johane Masowe Echishanu and Masowe eAfrica (Chivamba branch).)

The activity brought together 100 adolescents and young people (both girls and boys) in a safe, interactive space to learn and openly discuss drug and substance abuse, mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, climate change and environmental sustainability, and youth participation in community leadership.

The discussions also highlighted key learning gaps especially around SRHR–HIV linkages, mental health awareness and coping, misconceptions about climate change, and limited youth involvement in local decision-making. Community-led, low-cost solutions were encouraged, including peer education, structured dialogues with faith leaders, youth-led clubs, and mentorship linkages with local leaders.

The Young People’s Network on Health and Wellbeing (YPNHW) is a sector-based network that brings together adolescents and young people from diverse backgrounds to meaningfully participate in Zimbabwe’s health response. One of its key pillars is capacity strengthening, which focuses on equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities needed to influence change within their communities.

It is always encouraging to witness the impact of such initiatives in action. Recently, the Chitungwiza Sector Representative for Young People in Governance, Outgoing Junior Clerk Nyasha Kwaramba, delivered an outstanding and insightful session to prospective Junior Councillors on digital advocacy.

This achievement is a direct result of the capacity-building opportunities provided through the Harare Young People’s Network on Health and Wellbeing Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. Through such trainings, young leaders are empowered to cascade knowledge, mentor peers, and actively contribute to decision-making platforms within their sectors.

The continued investment in young people’s development is clearly yielding positive results, as evidenced by Nyasha’s ability to effectively transfer knowledge and inspire the next generation of young leaders. This highlights the importance of sustained capacity strengthening efforts in building a vibrant, informed, and empowered youth constituency.
