Training breaks you down. Recovery is where you rebuild. Skip the recovery and the damage carries into the next session, and the next, until it stacks up.
The research is blunt. Adults need 7 to 9 hours to recover, and about a third get under 7, a shortfall that compounds night after night. Sleep and food do the actual repair, no tool replaces them. But rest alone is slow. A 2018 review of 99 studies found sports massage, compression, and cold therapy measurably cut soreness, fatigue, and inflammation.
So use the right one for what you're feeling. Recovery isn't the reward for the work. It's the other half of it. Come clear the balance.
