DFD incorporates both surfaces of the spool to maximize high-end drag pressure, efficiency, and overall smoothness. Mounted on the top of the spool and protected by the Hydro Block system is a multi-disc felt drag system that works in conjunction with a secondary drag system that is mounted under the spool. Even pressure is applied to both surfaces of the spool for maximum stability and significantly increased drag output compared to traditional single drag systems.

Did you know that the Makaira Spinning Reels feature Okuma's Dual Force Drag (DFD) system? The Makaira drag system utilizes the complete surface area of the carbon fiber drag washers. The system has been engineered to make full contact with the outer edges of the carbon washers which maximizes efficiency and the ability to deliver high drag outputs. The DFD concept applies pressure to both sides of the spool in order to maximize use of the available surface area, enlarging the working surfaces of our drag system and dramatically improving heat dissipation.
