Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a silent killer.
About 37 million people in the United States have chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition caused by long-term damage to the kidneys.
If the kidneys aren’t functioning properly, they can’t perform their main job: filtering excess fluid and waste products from the blood. That built-up fluid and waste can then lead to other problems, including heart disease and stroke.
While a number of health conditions can lead to CKD, the two most common ones are diabetes and high blood pressure, or hypertension.
The interplay of diabetes, high blood pressure, and CKD creates a vicious cycle that worsens all three conditions.
