Этимология названий половых гормонов раскрывает их функциональное воздействие на наш организм.
Эстроген (Estrogen) состоит из 2 частей: estro c латинского и с греческого означает овод, возбуждение, страсть, неистовство, «frenzied passion», или estrus , значит «течка», «охота», а вторая часть gen происходит из слова genere , что значит рожать, порождать, соответственно, gen значит происхождение, род .
Овод это надоедливое насекомое, укус которого вызывает безумие у некоторых животных.
Estro, estrus, oistrus происходят от протоиндоевропейского слова heys, что выражает эмоциональное состояние, состояние гнева.
Если объединить вместе эти значения в слове estrogen, заложенный в нас гормон будет звучать как род, происхождение, живость, яркость, возбуждение, сексуальное влечение.
Схожая история со словом hysteria, что значит uterus, матка.

Прогестерон (Progesterone) происходит от двух латинских слов pro, что значит для, в пользу, и gest (gestatio), что значит gestation или беременность, ношение. Он готовит матку к имплантации оплодотворенной яйцеклетки и пролонгированию наступившей беременности. Это гормон беременности.
Уровень гормонов меняется в зависимости от возраста.
Эстрогены и гестагены определяют наше женское поведение - нестабильное или стабильное, эмоционально лабильное или стрессоустойчивое, сексуально активное или либидо снижено.
Как же мы, женщины, зависимы от дня менструального цикла, так как подвержены циклическим изменениям!
Природа вложила в нас, в женщин, задачу сохранить человеческий вид через фертильность, через материнский инстинкт.

Progesterone as pregnancy hormone is preparing the uterus for implantation of fertilized egg and pregnancy prolongation.
Female s*x hormones change, depending on age.
Estrogens and gestagens are our makers. They determine female behavior, it could be stable or unstable, emotionally labile or stress-resistant, s*xually active or decreased libido.
So, women are held hostages by hormones, by menstrual cycle.
The nature has invested in women to keep the human race through fertility and maternal instinct.
