😩 Yep another wellness trend that is not backed by science and this time it’s actually making your gut health worse.

➡️ Electrolytes ARE needed by the body but you get them already from your diet. In the case of sodium, we already consume too much and adding an additional supplement like this can just add to digestive issues.

🙏 Avoid these if you don’t won’t more bloating.

One of the biggest reasons people feel stuck with IBS is because they think they’ve already “tried everything.”

More fibre
More water
Stress management
Better sleep
Exercise

But when we actually break it down… most people haven’t tested these things in the way that IBS science supports.

And that’s not your fault.

Most advice online is vague, overwhelming or impossible to apply consistently in real life.

Last week inside my Take Control Programme, someone with IBS-C felt frustrated because “nothing was changing.”

But when we looked closer:

They hadn’t increased fibre enough
They weren’t using the right type
They weren’t sure how much fluid they were actually drinking
They hadn’t trialled the fibre supplement properly yet

So naturally they felt defeated and started thinking:

“This just doesn’t work for me.”

But the reality was they hadn’t actually had the chance to test it properly yet.

This is what I see ALL the time with IBS.

The details matter.
The consistency matters.
The stacking matters.

IBS improvement rarely comes from one magic supplement or cutting out another food group.

It usually comes from doing the basics properly, consistently and long enough for your gut to respond.

If you feel like you’ve tried everything already, this post is your reminder that there’s often another layer to explore before giving up.

😅 Your doctor missed this… what a great hook on social media.

😩 This type of fear mongering hook feeds into those worries - it feeds into you thinking that your uncontrolled digestive symptoms can’t possible be ‘just IBS’

🙋‍♀️ Then comes the body check - using physical appearance as ‘proof’ of what they are about to sell you.

😩😩 I am seeing this sort of post all over my feed and I am sure you are also.

➡️ But the truth is that uncontrolled IBS symptoms are really awful and sadly people are left to their own devices after diagnosis.

🙂 Although other diagnoses are missed sometimes this is really very very rare - especially with medical guidelines being followed.

🙏 Please be very skeptical about what you see online.

😅😅And guess what? My stomach hurt for the rest of the day after filming this post as I had to suck in so hard! And it was very cringe worthy! I hope the neighbors didn’t see 😂.

🤞🤞🤞 One day.

🙂 There are so many tests available for gut function and diagnosis but there are also gaps, room for error and of course lots of random tests that have no scientific backing at all.

😩 It is frustrating getting tests that all come back showing ‘you are ok.’

🙏🙏But we also need to be careful about opting into further testing which just isn’t backed by science. I am seeing many people waste 100s if not 1000s on this in the hope to get answers when they just get more confusion or told to follow diets / protocols that can actually make the gut worse.

‼️A word on microscopic colitis which is often missed because of first line testing. Please also mention things like overnight symptoms, watery diarrhea, how many times you open your bowels and also if you have periods where there are then no symptoms - all indicates potential microscopic colitis which can work towards getting you that onward referral.

😩 One day 🤞

🙏🙏 When you have IBS is can be really frustrating but it’s important to understand some of this background so you know what is and is not available.

🙋‍♀️ Speak to your doctor - any good doctor is more than happy to explain what tests would be helpful or not and why.

😩 It may seem like IBS food reactions are random but they are not.

➡️The issue is that there are layers to this and it is not as simple as eat a food = reaction.

🙏 Thank you to this client for leaving a review.

🤝 If you don’t have your normal 9-5 schedule it can be even trickier to work out what your gut needs and this is where my 121 program is particularly useful.

“I feel like I can’t eat anything anymore.”

This client came to me convinced her body reacted to EVERYTHING.

She’d tried cutting out foods over and over again because symptoms felt so random. One week she’d think she’d found a trigger… then the next time she ate it she’d be completely fine.

Meanwhile she was:
• googling symptoms constantly
• taking Imodium before busy days
• anxious about long meetings and being away from a toilet
• scared to eat out
• feeling frustrated because she was “doing everything by the book” and still struggling

What she eventually realised was that her symptoms weren’t random at all.

They were stacking.

Stress + poor sleep + rushing meals + constipation building up + a higher FODMAP meal = symptoms.

Not just “one bad food.”

And honestly, this is one of the biggest mindset shifts I see inside my programme.

You stop seeing your body as unpredictable or broken… and start understanding the patterns behind your symptoms.

That’s when food starts feeling less scary again.

That’s when people stop living on “safe foods.”

That’s when going on holiday, eating out or having a spontaneous meal starts feeling possible again ❤️
