The Feldenkrais method is a learning method, that stands out from the usual way movement is taught. The Feldenkrais practitioner leads the class merely with spoken and gentle movement suggestions, which makes it possible for the students to work in their own pace and learn to work self responsible. This allows the students to explore and discover the movements for themselves, have their own experi
ence of their structure and also have their own experience of themselves as a whole. The opposite of this approach would be to just copy and imitate the teacher in one way or another and by that rather lose sense of oneself. The Feldenkrais method has truly many benefits, but just to name a few:
This way of work with oneself improves health generally and more so it improves movement quality on all levels, in dancers, musicians and athletes as well as in people struggling with pains or disabilities. It also improves the sense of oneself, that is an individual and deeply human experience. Why it often sounds like it might be an esoteric method, but it's really very concrete, it is built up in an scientific manner and at the same time it is very simple: It's about your experience and your awareness of it. On a biological level the feldenkrais method increases neuroplasticity and brings the brain to a more fresh and perceptive state, that can react to its surroundings not according to learned patterns, but in new, more adequate and more intelligent ways. Because the method is made as such that everybody works with themselves and for themselves, the classes are suited for everybody. Me, I am a dancer and official feldenkrais practitioner in training. I finished 2 years of feldenkrais education and I am officially permitted to teach ATMs by our international education program held in Vienna.
