🚨 When does IR become the first call rather than the backup plan?

🩻 Trauma.
🩸 GI bleeding.
🫁 Haemoptysis.
⚕️ Iatrogenic injury.

In each of these, minimally invasive embolisation can stop the bleeding without a laparotomy — but only if there's a team available to do it. 👥

⏰ That last part matters more than most students realise.

CIRSE has published Standards of Practice specifically on providing emergency IR care on a 24/7 basis 📄, because a service that only runs 9-to-5 isn't really an emergency service.
