ROBIOPSY project successfully completed REGOLUS prototype

ACMIT and the ROBIOPSY consortium partners proudly announce the successful completion of REGOLUS, an innovative prototype developed within the EU-funded ROBIOPSY project, supported by an EIC Transition grant.

REGOLUS is a semi-automatic, AI-enabled robotic platform for prostate biopsy, combining robotic needle positioning, automated rotational ultrasound scanning and advanced planning software. The prototype aims to improve workflow consistency, reduce operator dependency and address key limitations related to ergonomics, manual workload and automation.

Within the project, ACMIT was responsible for developing the robotic core component, specifically designed for the manipulation of the transrectal ultrasound probe and the precise targeting and positioning of the biopsy or therapy needle. In addition to its technical responsibilities, ACMIT also played a key role in regulatory affairs management, overseeing compliance and regulatory strategy throughout the entire development process.

This milestone marks a significant advancement in the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into clinical workflows for prostate cancer diagnostics.

ACMIT is proud to contribute to this achievement and remains committed to driving innovation in minimally invasive, image-guided medical technologies.

3D PATH project presented at AI for Oncology and Cancer Research Conference 2026
The 3D PATH project was successfully presented at the 4th edition of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Oncology and Cancer Research Conference, held in Milan, Italy on May 7–8, 2026. by project partner Clepio Biotech.
At the event, the team presented a scientific poster titled “A novel 3D tissue twin technology enabling new AI for precision medicine.” The presentation highlighted the innovative approach of 3D PATH in transforming digital pathology through the integration of volumetric imaging and artificial intelligence.
The project aims to overcome the limitations of conventional 2D histopathology by generating high-resolution 3D digital tissue twins of intact biological samples. By combining light-sheet microscopy, advanced tissue processing, and AI-ready data architectures, 3D PATH seeks to create more realistic and reliable datasets for precision oncology.
Within the 3D PATH consortium, ACMIT plays a key role in developing a certification-ready version of the light-sheet microscope. In addition, ACMIT is responsible for regulatory affairs management, supporting alignment with medical device standards and facilitating the pathway toward clinical adoption.
The event enabled the 3D PATH team to build collaborations, exchange expertise, and explore the role of 3D pathology and AI in personalized cancer treatment.

New publication on RALV by ACMIT and its partners in “Die Ophthalmologie”

ACMIT and its partners are pleased to announce the publication of a new prospective clinical study entitled “Leistungsbewertung eines Sehsimulators für Intraokularlinsen”, published in the journal “Die Ophthalmologie”.

The study evaluates the performance of the optical system RALV (Real Artificial Lens Vision © DEZIMAL GmbH) in predicting postoperative visual outcomes for patients undergoing refractive lens exchange.
In recent years, intraocular lens (IOL) simulators have become increasingly important tools for preoperative patient counselling and for assessing acceptance of different lens options.

The RALV device represents a novel approach, allowing patients to experience vision through a real, commercially available IOL even before implantation.

The study evaluated how accurately RALV can simulate postoperative vision in patients receiving trifocal IOLs by comparing preoperative simulations with postoperative outcomes, including visual acuity and contrast sensitivity at all distances, as well as halo and glare perception.

Results showed a strong statistical agreement between RALV predictions and postoperative outcomes, with deviations within clinically acceptable limits (≤ ±0.10 logMAR for visual acuity and ≤ ±0.25 logCSWeber for contrast sensitivity). Halo and glare measurements also demonstrated close agreement within ±4.55 mrad.

These findings confirm that the RALV system provides a reliable and clinically relevant preview of postoperative vision with trifocal IOLs, supporting improved patient counselling, shared decision-making, and greater predictability in refractive lens exchange.
