You can spend time understanding your patterns and why you do what you do. And the change happens when you start shifting those patterns in real time.

🙌 When you express your needs instead of expecting your partner to just know.
✌ When you make room for their experience instead of only defending your own.
🫶 When you work towards understanding and compromise rather than fighting to have your perspective heard above theirs.
👍 When you respond differently in the moments you'd usually fall back into the same old dynamic.

And importantly, when you're both willing to participate in creating that change. Because you can't create a different relationship by yourself, and waiting for each other to go first won't get you very far.

Before you go looking for the next hack, how are you going with the basics? 😉

A lot of the time your partner doesn’t want you to fix it or tell them what to do.

They might just want you to listen, understand why it’s been hard and be with them in it for a minute.

And if you’re not sure just ask - “do you want me to listen or help you figure out what to do?”. Saves both of you a lot of frustration. ✌️

Creating safety for each other also means making room for the things that are harder to hear.

You don’t have to agree, but you do need to make room for each other’s experience.

Relationship equations that don't always match. Most of us learned these as if one automatically meant the other. And a lot of relationship pain lives in the space between what we assume and what is actually true.

Unhealthy relationship dynamics don’t require change or work on yourselves. You just run the patterns you know and off you go… even if it doesn’t feel good, but feels familiar.

Healthy relationship dynamics invite more of you. They ask you to consider your role in the relationship and how your actions or inaction are impacting your partner and contributing to the issues you’re having. Healthy relationships require compromise, emotional regulation and repair when you don’t get it right.

They also require a level of change, compromise and good communication to ensure the needs of both partners are being met along the way. It’s not perfect, but you make it work together.

If you’re struggling in unhealthy relationship patterns and conflicts that you’re wanting to understand and change, I’d love to work with you.

Not just going to nod my head with a blank face all the time. 😶

We can be professional and still human. ✌️

We tend to show love and care in ways that make sense to us, and after being together for a while, it's easy to assume we know what makes our partner feel loved too.

But people change and relationships change. What mattered when you first got together might not be what makes someone feel connected ten years, two kids and a completely different life later.

And some of the answers might be much smaller than you'd expect. It might be things like how you greet them when they get home. Following up about something they told you earlier. Sitting beside them chatting instead of being on your phone. Taking care of something without being asked. Initiating affection. Surprising them with something you know they like.

So instead of assuming, just ask them. And then tell them your answers too.

Instead of pulling out all the receipts to prove who has done what, get curious about what is underneath… could it be something about fairness, appreciation or responsibility that you actually need to talk about? 🧐 if so, that’s the conversation you need to have.
